what to do with my 92 1LE
hello, all
I have a 1992 1LE that has 60K on it. it was hit in the front left and needs a frame pull to be repaired. I also have a 1992 rs 3.1 with 80k on it. i was going to tare down the 1LE and use all the parts to build the other car. questions is, should i do it? it being a rare car in all.

How bad is the 1LE?-got any pix? I mean you have 2 cars there to make one good one so if you don't want to fix the 1LE, then you could use both to make a nice car.

The thirdgen historian in me says repair the 1LE.
The economist in me says part it out.
Of course, we have no idea how bad the 1LE without pictures. Also, what little future value it may have could be lost due to a rebuilt/repaired title.

Title could still be clear if it was never release or turned into insurance for a collision claim.
I hate seeing stuff like this parted, and at some point in your life you will regret parting it out. Best thing you could do is sell it to someone with the means of repairing it correctly if that is not you.

it was my uncles racing buddies car, he bought it brand new and put 40k miles on it, he let his son take it to prom and they ran into the back of a schoolbus.
the car sat for 10+ years before i got it, it was fixable but as young as i was at the time didnt have the money to have it fixed, so i sold the engine/trans and took the rest of 1le specific parts and installed them on my 89 rs. i then scrapped the body without thinking twice about it.
i kick myself in the *** everytime i think about that car and how much it would be worth today all fixed up
atleast on the positive note the 1le lives on in the form of my turbo v6 rs camaro

Re: what to do with my 92 1LE
Save the car if its possible. Like others have said, if it's not feasible money wise, hold on to the car. If you let it go it will be something that you always will regret. 1LE's have a value and following all of there own because they got the factory go-fast options and not much else.
This is especially true with this car being a 1992 model. There were not many '91-'92 Z28's made in the first place. It's also true that many of these cars came equipped with the LB9 with the non-G92 option cam. It's not a surprise as this was the lowest cost engine that you could get in the Z28 during that time frame. So consequently it was the high volume selling car.
You have got a 1LE optioned car so it's got the prefered L98/700r4/G92/N10 or LB9/5-speed/G92/N10 options on it in addition to the 1LE specific parts.
Yes, you can go to the aftermarket and get parts that will easily out perform the factory 1LE set up. That being said at this point I would want to keep as many 1LE parts as I could on the car. You can always pick up another Z28 or (modify that 1992 RS that you already have if its salvagable) and go crazy with mods on it.

If you scrap that car and save a V6 RS, you will regret it now...and later...and later after that...
A 1LE is something special. A V6 RS is the bottom of the third gen food chain. Spare the 1LE. Please. If you don't have the cash to do it, sell it to someone who does.

Looking at the damage, I'd say keep it and repair it. Not as bad as I thought. It'll take a lot of cash to fully restore it, though...

I feel the same way about my '92 Z28, if it got wrecked in the back or front end collision, I'd order it to be fixed like new. Whether it would cost 10grand or 20 grand. Whether it took me 8 years I'd save it.

Re: what to do with my 92 1LE
on the other hand i now have a badass v6 car that is more powerfull and handles better then the majority of the z28.iroc/gta etc cars on this board.
but oif i could do it all over again i would have saved the 1le car and then tried to piece together all the 1le stuff for my v6 car

Re: what to do with my 92 1LE
thanks to all for the input and info on the 1le. i just feel like the price of the car as is, is not worth as much as it is to me to put these two cars together and build my dream 3gen. but at the same time i do still feel guilty doing so. does anyone know about how much my 1le would bring in this market as is?

Re: what to do with my 92 1LE
I found a guy selling his '91 Z28 and claims its a 1LE with under 50k original miles and is asking 10 grand. So I'd imagine yours would go for 23-35% of that.
