I am obsessed with this car...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ponti...item3f1ad8018a

No, I'm not buying it...but this car personifies everything right about a mid 80s Trans Am. Bright color...crosslace wheels...t-tops...loaded interior with power everything and the subwoofer stereo...digitial dash...WS6...

So what if its 190hp and rolls with 2.77s...I'm in love. Knowing cars like this are out there makes me feel not quite as bad about selling my hardtop, non-WS6 86. Sorry...I just had to share this one. I mean, look at the engine bay! Beautiful!!

I think $9,500 is a screaming deal for it, too...I sold my 86 with 12k more miles, no t-tops and no WS6 for $500 more.

EDIT: To save pictures for posterity...

I guess I just love a flawless car like this one. I know the '86s have the "turd" stamp from many on here for the low HP offerings...but this car has a ton going for it. Hard to beat a clean bright red finish with charcoal PW7s, and a loaded interior...

Super nice car for the money.

The digital dash is an awesome option IMO, wish mine had it.

That car is close to you, by the way!! I Mapquested the area last night. If I already had a lift to store it on, that car would be coming home with me. I've been keeping an eye out for a Formula 350 or a 5 speed GTA, but that option/color combo is perfect to me...

I know it does Remember, my 86 was your twin, just without t-tops and WS6 (it had individual options for the posi and rear discs though).

I want another one...eventually...and even though its a little slow, this one would be perfect.

Re: I am obsessed with this car...

Now's a good time to buy. There are quite a few cars that should be getting more, but aren't. I've been watching a '92 Z28 Purple Haze car on ebay for a few weeks now. I know the owner and I would love to bring the car home, but like everybody else, finances are tight and buying a car isn't in my budget. If you have the resources, now is the time to buy. Check this out. $9500 for a fully loaded '92 Z28.

I totally agree. I was happy and fortunate to get my asking prices for both of mine this past spring, but realistically I study the market daily, and priced them right. Plus, they were nice turn-key cars. The market is still weak on these cars. I remain even more amazed how cheap LT1 4th gens are as well. You can get a damn nice LT1 4th gen for $6-7k...

My wife and I have spent the money I received from the 2 TAs on home renovations and furniture over the course of this summer. If we hadn't, that 86 would be coming home with me.

I've never had seller's remorse before...but I miss my damn 86

Re: I am obsessed with this car...

It's beautiful. Current bid at $7500, and it's ether passed the reserve or it's a no reserve auction. 3 days to go, will be interesting to see what the winning bid is.
I did notice it had a low score on the history report. Seems there is some issue with the odometer readings, I'd get clarification on that before bidding on it.

I will absolutely have another third gen, and it will be a Firebird. It will simply take me a little while to get another one. I love my 2 fourth gens...I have my SS as a garage queen to go along with the IROC. Permanently, they are mine. My "driver" is my Z28, as 73k isn't exactly low mileage. As a driver, a 4th gen is simply a more reliable car than a third gen, even as it's gotten older(I'm sorry to say this, but its really true...). The extra funds do not exist currently, as I just bought the SS in March, and I'm having an affair with an old-school '99 Wrangler I took in on trade back in May Jeeps are as addicting as 3rd and 4th gens, I've discovered. Plus, it doesn't matter where I park it or if it gets scratched, let alone rained on!!

Step 1 is to get a lift in the next year. Step 2 is to put a third gen Firebird on it

I would love to put a loan on that sucker and drag it home. At the moment, though, I'm aggressively paying down my wife's student loans to get rid of them once and for all. We're also spending some major coin doing some remodeling around the house, and we still have to re-do the kitchen. Its a great house (with a 1,550 SF 4 car garage/workshop out back ), but its hard to think that a house built in 1986 is almost 30 years old, and that kitchens and windows start to look a little dated by then!!

Realistically, after selling the 2 TAs and buying the SS and the Wrangler this year, I gotta wait a little while. I thought about dumping the Wrangler for a profit (bought it wholesale through work), but I've put 3,500 miles on it this Summer, and I love it. Having the roof and doors off a Wrangler is fun as hell, and its as close to a motorcycle as I will allow myself! Selling the Wrangler isn't an option.

Thanks for the finance tip though! I will check them out!

The Buy it Now is $9,500. I would happily click that all day long, and thought about it for a few last night!!

EDIT: AH HAH!! He's getting greedy...the Buy it Now is gone!!

I saw pics of your Wrangler on FB. I like those alot, too. Actually, someone was going to give me a FREE 1970 Bronco last year, (which fell through), so that got me thinking about old Jeeps.

Not to stray too far off track and hi-jack my own thread, but the reliability, simplicity and "I don't have to worry about anything" aspects of 97-06 TJs have made me fall in love with them. My wife and I took mine on an 800 mile road trip back last month (despite having a perfectly good demo sitting in the driveway!)...the same route I took my RS on 3 years. While the RS got about 7 MPG better (26 vs 19), having something newer and less finicky made for a more relaxing trip. Also, having something I could park anywhere, and drive in rain without a worry, was pretty nice too

As with 3rd and 4th gens, I now don't see myself without a TJ Wrangler, either. They remind me of what I love about 3rd gens...simple, elemental, old school. Hard to beat an I6 Jeep for simplicity. Plus, the fact that my techs here at work are HAPPY to work on it is nice as well. My RS taught the old school techs and body shop guys a thing or two about...

1) Regasketing a SBC
2) VATS
3) Leaky t-tops
4) Leaky t-tops that lead to floorboards rusting from the inside out
5) Hatch motors that work...then don't...then do...then don't
6) "Hey Jason, your RS is on the alignment lift and won't start. Got any clue what it could be?" "Uh, nope...you're the tech. Best of luck to you."

If I had that kind of money, I would have bought it already. Brentwood's only a couple minutes away from me.

I just picked up a really clean '87 IROC for 2k, so another car really isn't in the cards at the moment.

I guess if I sold both...

It's hard to justify a car like that for me though. My T/A is pretty close to that car, lacking just a few options (digi dash, power mirrors, perf. sound; that's it really). If I do get another one, it'll be a 5-speed.

See, a car like that is right up my alley. I don't need a DD, I'm tired of fixing up other people's stuff, and its bone stock and pretty. A heavy restore on my 91 RS didn't go well for me. A light restore on my 86 TA went beautifully.

But buying my IROC, and doing nothing more than replacing 4 tires and the intake gasket, was the best one yet

Has it been on eBay a lot? I haven't seen it before, and I check them out on a regular basis for 85-92 cars. Does it normally not meet reserve or something?

Jason, I know how you feel about Wrangler. I had a 98 back in 2000 and it was cool, but as much freeway driving as i do it was not a great DD for me. I have wanted another one for a long time, but most under $10k are rust buckets.

The answer to that is simple, the were asking too much for it. You can sell any car any time if you price it at what the market is willing to pay.

With a day and a half to go as of this morning, the bidding is still stuck at $7500. Could be it won't go much higher and will be a good buy for someone.

Mine is a pure toy...I have a demo through work. You are correct...anything under $10k for a Wrangler is normally junk. Mine is the first one we would've sold for under $10k in YEARS...so I bought it myself

It was in FL until 2009, so unlike most northern Wranglers, everything is rust free. So far, I started with this...

I bought it for $5,400, and have about $8,000 in it the way it sits now. Worth every penny. Its a 99 Sport with a 6, air, stick and both tops. Throwing a 2" spacer lift and 31s on it was the best idea I ever had

I noticed that...I think he shot himself in the foot taking down the buy it now. Someone like me hates bidding, but if the price on a BIN is right, I'll just buy the damn thing and know I have it.

I would rather pay $9,500 for it than bid on it and risk losing it...or worse yet, getting in a bidding war and pay more for it (seen that happen more than once!)

Nice, Jason. So for Jeep money, what would I get? A Jeep or a nice Manx Dune Buggy. Probably won't get either, but I get into these weird phases. Like I said, this all started when my brain juices started flowing over the prospect of a free 1970 Bronco. The last phase was to find an old motorcylcle to turn into a Cafe Racer. That would have been a bad idea, considering I'm a middle aged fat guy who doesn't really know how to ride.

Re: I am obsessed with this car...

I didn't know they offered a digi dash in '86, a neighbor few blocks down has one I'm seriously considering buying when I save up enough, I've seen it before up close and personal, '86 bright red t/a t-tops, paint is faded and it needs new weatherstrip, its got the black spoiler, but no GTA wheels, it comes with the '86 wheels which are still nice. But I forget the code for these wheels.

I won't touch a motorcycle simply due to the danger factor. I was rear-ended in the Jeep a few weeks back...Ion was totalled, I was barely scraped up a little. I kept thinking, what if I had been on a bike? I've decided the Jeep is as close to a bike as I will ever get. Doors come off, roof comes off...close enough

Re: I am obsessed with this car...

Auction ended, sold for $8,300. You never know if a bidding war could've ensued with the winner, but I would've been more than happy to pay $8,400 for it...or even the $9,500 Buy it Now the guy took down.

While a 190hp LB9 and a 2.77 gear can leave something to be desired (my 86 was the same combo), that car had a lot going for it. Someone got one helluva deal...

Maybe that was what happened...but I don't remember seeing a reserve ever listed on it. I could be wrong, though...that was something I didn't know about eBay!

They have been trying to sell it since i was high school. i graduated 3 years ago. Around 07 (im guessing) is when the car first went on ebay, or even 06. The car would never sell, i dont remember the prices though, or the bidding, i just know everytime a while back i would get on ebay that car was constantly listed.
