What is this Camaro worth?

I apologize if I'm in the wrong thread but I need some advice from the big dogs on this one. I am looking to purchase this 1987 Camaro IROC-Z. It has the 350 tpi and a 700-r4 with a B&M shift kit. Lowered one inch with an aftermarket hotchkis performance suspension package. Full 3 inch exhaust. 50k original miles. He is asking 7500 for it. Is this a good deal?

I don't want to sound like a jerk, but why would you ask for a value of car that is not original on the Originality forum?

Update...after looking for a forum to move this to, I find that there isn't one. So, I will leave it here.

Re: What is this Camaro worth?

Doesn't look like a 50,000 mile car. Unless it has sat outside...ALOT. That messed up driver's door makes me nervous.

I'd say 5k, pending more information and pics.

Re: What is this Camaro worth?

4500.

If it were original, then 7500 is more appropriate. If it were pristine, original, and with 50k on the clock. It would be worth close to if not, right at 10k.

One that hasn't been properly taken care of cosmetically, you have to wonder how properly maintenence was adhered to. There are too many variables to be sure of how dependable it will be.

Besides, with mods, you'd want documentation, or some kind of proof they were done right, otherwise it could be a nightmare waiting to happen.

Just one guy's opinion.

I feel like the price is fair IF it's in better shape than it appears.

Re: What is this Camaro worth?

Also check the VIN# to make sure it is a 1987 model year car. It's got the 1988-1990 wheels and stripes. If it is a real 1987 IROC then someone swapped out the original wheels and changed the stripes at some point during the cars life. These could also be signs of a repaint job. It's false advertising or maybe the seller used some pictures of a different car.

The 1985-1987 IROC's got single stripe wheels with black stripe below the contrasting color above. The 1988-1989 IROC's got a black stripe above the contrasting color and double stripe IROC wheels.

The modifications that were made to the car were few and it could be returned to factory specs - but it won't be original. Depends on what you are looking for. If you want a 100% factory original car, then this selection wouldn't meet the requirements. the lowering springs and exhaust mods are simple to change back to factory specs but, they won't be the parts that the car came off the production line with.

One point of concern with this car are the transmission mods. B&M isn't a great company to deal with and I really don't care for their products. Do a search on this website and you will see what I mean. B&M shift kits turn up the line pressure and cause bang / snap your neck style shifts at all throttle positions all the time. So you could be moving slow in a parking lot or in traffic and each shift is going to feel like a full throttle shift. It's hard on transmission internals and other drive-line components. Shift firmness should increase with increasing throttle opening - not a high line pressure, full throttle shift situation all the time.

Re: What is this Camaro worth?

If you scroll to the bottom of the first pic, it does say "1989"...so stripes are probably correct.
