Rare gold/beechwood on black 88 vert.

So I know rare doesn't often translate into value, but I can't recall seeing many of these. Car is gorgeous. ...and ya know I like my gold! ....I'm currently shopping, and this one caught my eye! ....but I need a project to turn wrenches on so this beauty is better owned by someone else!!!! LOL

Priced at 20,995 firm 1988 Chevy Camaro IROC-Z Convertible * 5.0 liter engine with 700R4 automatic * All original, one previous owner, only 59K miles! * Rare and desirable color combo This particular car was purchased in August of 1988 by an adult, married couple as a gift to the wife. This one features the 5.0 liter (305) Tuned Port Injection engine, and is mated to a 700-R4 automatic transmission with overdrive. Everything is totally original, untouched, and unmodified. I have every document from Day One, including all the owner's manuals, inserts, dealer paint and interior protection pamphlets, maintenance records, and I even have the dealer invoice and bill of sale. The interior in this car is all original and absolutely gorgeous.

Looks great, and would've been a perfect car if a stick shift. Classic 80s color combo.

Is $20K a good price?
That's such a debatable topic these days! ....as I mentioned, I have been looking, though I'm looking for more of a project. I'd say it's probably a fair price. The difference between a $15k car and a $25k car seems to be in the details. Overall good mileage and above average condition cars seem to start around $15k, from what I've seen. ....but just HOW clean....seems to make a BIG difference. Without really looking the car over, I think it's hard to say. I think about Scott Moyer's car, and I know how clean THAT car is. -but many look to be just as clean, -from photos on the internet. It's unlikely that most of 'em are really that caliber. So hard to tell without seeing in person. Still....if you could get this car for $18k....with the documentation that he says he has, and at least to ME, a desirable and uncommon color combo....it's likely a good deal I think. Still.....would be nice if it was a 5 speed. You also have nostalgia. Some may pay $20k for a car that most wouldn't look twice at, at $15k.

Re: Rare gold/beechwood on black 88 vert.

Price is simply what one person is willing to pay at that given moment and there is a butt for every seat.

I was having a garage sale and a guy saw my IROC sitting in the corner and asked if it was also for sale. I said everything is for sale for the right price... When the guy asked what that price was my dad chuckled, looked at the guy, and said "you're not going to like his price". On that day it was going to cost that guy $65,190 to get my IROC which is the exact price of a 2019 ZL1 lol!

The guy replied that there was no way in hell he was going to pay that and walked off. My dad just laughed and asked what I would have done if he said yes? I told him I would have crapped my pants!

Re: Rare gold/beechwood on black 88 vert.

Yeah I found the old video of that car and the classic dealer tells a responder that he sold the car to someone in KY. That was 10/2019

It looks like the new owner is re-selling the car only driving it about 1000 more miles.

If you love mint, original IROCs and the look of the convertible I don’t think you’d miss a stick with this car... The black on the tan leather looks so freakin’ good! I’d buy this car in a heartbeat if I could because I know you’d never find this combo in a stick...

The color combo I have on my vert has only popped up in a stick twice in 15 years of looking... (dagwood is the lucky owner of one of them!)

I think the price is good but with almost 60k miles I’d beat him up a little on the price but it’s in the ballpark

I’d take that car over a lot of 5-speeds and 5.7s I see but that’s just me... This car “pops”

Car is pretty, but with the miles, I'd be at more like $15K.

I was thinking $15k-$18k tops... It looks like a 20k mile car in pics but I wonder if the mileage shows in person...

Yeah....I agree with this. ....as for not missing the stick....ehhh....man I dunno. Whether or not you could find one WITH a stick isn't really the point. I think the stick adds FAR more driving fun...and with a car you wouldn't want to tear up and start hot rodding.....I think I'd need that stick.

I understand that... I was just speaking for me personally... How the car looks sort of wins out to me but if I could wave a magic wand and make it a stick, sure I’d do it... I didn’t see a lot of black convertibles pop up in my searches and have definitely never seen another like that one... I think IROCs look awesome in black... I haven’t seen a lot of black 5-speeds period for whatever reason.

Black with the tan interior is hands down my favorite combo. Took me 12 years to find my '87...

I'm right with ya. If the car is clean enough...I would maybe go $18k just because I personally love the color combo so much. And for me, if it had 3 pedals, then for sure $18k if it's as nice as it looks

Car: 87 IROC-Z, 82 Pace Car
Re: Rare gold/beechwood on black 88 vert.

Chris, clean doesn't seem to be helping my car any. I submitted my IROC-Z to bringatrailer.com and told them what my reserve would be. After seeing the photos and providing all of the documentation, they declined my entry saying that I need to bring my reserve down as they don't think the IROC-Z will bring that kind of money. They asked why I thought it was worth that and I provided them additional details about the multi-platinum award status, books, magazines and tshirts that it's been used for, etc. I then reminded them that they sold a 23k mile 1988 car for $32k last June that was nowhere near as detailed as mine and had fewer options (https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...z-28-iroc-z-5/). They just sold a 1989 TTA for $43k (obviously a no mile car) the same week they said they don't see a 3rd gen getting that much. I provided them the concourse Hagerty price guide of $32k with a 10% upcharge for TTops, equalling $35k now. I also provided them details about the $37k IROC-Z sold at Barrett-Jackson last year, and a '92 Z28 with 5k miles for $44k this year..

I know I have more miles than some of these cars, but BaT having sold one almost identical in miles and only 1 model year apart , you'd think they would go approve it.

They also asked me to lower my reserve by $4k on the '82 Pace Car! They mentioned that lowering my reserve would make it easier to sell. I responded back that I could put the car up at no reserve if my only goal was to only sell the car.
