Just picked up another low mile, original car
I just got home from picking this thing up. 1986 IROC-Z, 305 TPI, t-tops, overhead console, posi, 3.23 gears, 4 wheel disc brakes, and only 18,000 actual miles. I have seen the car twice at some car shows over the past few years, and fell in love with the car. I talked to the owner at a show a couple weeks ago, asked if he'd sell it, he threw out a number that I was more than happy with, and the rest is history lol. I'll get some better pics later on

Thanks fellas! I'm pretty stoked to have it. I sold my blue/gold IROC to the same dude in Los Angeles that bought my maroon convertible, and this is its replacement.

Looks perfect. Can't imagine what you could possibly do to it.
at this pace, you will have owned / flipped 90% of the thirdgen Camaro within the next 10 years

You are incredibly gifted at finding these prime examples. I have been keeping my eyes open for another one for my collection as completion of the one I have now is in sight. I might have better luck telling you what I am looking for and have you keep your eyes open for me!

I didn't realize there was such a difference in the colors between WA8751 (1986) and WA9591 (1989)

Awesome car for sure! I have to ask the question though. Why sell later model 350 car for the earlier 305 car? I know the miles are much lower, but I would think you would get more enjoyment out of a 65K car that could drive and enjoy without worrying about every mile you put on it. I totally get the desire for extremely low mileage examples, but I find that the ones with a little more mileage are more enjoyable. Just curious, both cars are beautiful and could not go wrong with either one. Maybe I am partial to the Beechwood interior.....

Thanks! And to answer your question, I actually had the 89 fixed up nice enough that I didn't really want to drive it a whole lot, either, lol. I'm thinking I'm going to get my black, 5.7 TPI, 1987 running and maybe just use that for a fun car to enjoy. Just get the interior all cleaned up and mint, and get the drive train up to 100%, and just leave all the patina.
Also, I bought the 86 for the exact same amount that I got out of the 89, so i figured it was a good upgrade with zero out of pocket expense.

You will probably make a killing down the road on this 86 simply because of its pristine condition and the big IROC sticker down the side of the car. Great addition!

How is the 87 going? I had not seen an update with that one in a while. My 87 is definitely my driver too..

Re: Just picked up another low mile, original car
I hauled the 87 out to my brother's farm where he has a hoist in his shop. That's all the farther I've gotten with it. But, I'm going to get rolling on it pretty quick to get it running and driving. I thought the engine was stuck, but it was the smog pump that was locked up, so that was great to figure out. The engine is nice and free. Shouldn't take a whole lot to get it to run. I have some new parts for it already

Re: Just picked up another low mile, original car
I always thought it was the same blue from 86-90 as well. But the paint codes are different. My 89 looks dark blue in person....WAY darker than a 1985....but it's quite a bit lighter than the 1986.

Great looking ‘86! Always loved the blue Irocs. You and ray jr have a knack for finding pristine examples, or a diamond in the rough! As others have mentioned, if I were in the market I’d have you hunt one down for me! Look forward to future posts Darin.

Beautiful!!! ....good for you! ....you're gonna have to stop titling your threads "found another low mile car". I almost didn't check it as I just assumed it was an older thread!!!!
That's why I sold my 89. Some people aren't bothered by that, but you and I...and many others....I guess it's an OCD thing! LOL

Re: Just picked up another low mile, original car
Thanks for the compliments, fellas!
I'm anxious to get the car back...I took it to the exhaust shop that I like, and had them make new tail pipes like they made for my 89 that have the same slash cut that look exactly like factory. I guess I just like the hidden look of stock exhaust. I don't need to see big, chrome Flowmaster tips. I'll post some pics when I get it back

The 89 left today..... I sure put a TON of blood, sweat and tears into that car. But, I'm glad that I had the opportunity to save the car.....and I know that it's going to a great home. She will share a garage with my old 88, G92, 5 speed convertible.

Re: Just picked up another low mile, original car
Wow that’s one clean ride. 18,000 miles……you should take it to a Chevy dealer. You might have some of the techs tearing up. And some who won’t know where to plug in the scanner.

I bought a new GM radiator overflow tank a few weeks ago, and finally got around to installing it tonight. MUCH better
Anyone know a good way to clean up the original one? It's filthy on the inside

Seal off the overflow tube and fill it with a Simple Green and water solution. Let it soak, maybe overnight. Get one of those long skinny wheel brushes that you can bend and scrub the corners through the fill opening.

citric acid is good cleaner for this, can buy it online pretty cheap. amazon, etc. don't put it in your radiator tho, too much work.
