I want to get something for under the dash and for the time being I just changed the lights under the dash to the RED 194 and just take the dome light out and turn the **** all the way up and there you go you go glowing lights under dash. I know its cheesy as hell but its my temporary thing until I feel like getting real lights.

I have switches to everything. I just choose to keep my neons on all the time. I get pulled over for the dumbest crap anyway like, "Oh I thought you didnt have your seatbelt on."
So I figure screw it, if I like my lights on, i'll keep them on.

I do have a seperate switch for the neons.

The neons aren't illegal, just the strobes. From the back of my car I look like a cop goin down the street with those on since they make the whole hatch window flash.
I did recently get that window tinted but you can probably still see them flashing.

I have one switch for the neons. One for the strobes. Thats what I meant when I was saying I can have just the neons or neons and strobes on.

im thinking of adding a few to help brighten things up once i get my interior back in and the stock dome is very very dim im going to also add a 4thgen rear view mirror with map lights that should help out some too

Yes, leds in the air vents look great especially at night

Mine were red, looked like a furnace in there

One weekend i had fun with a box of lights and did my dash, neons, and I put some lights in the front fender vents

The fender vents were hooked to the turn signal so they flashed when I was turning and stayed solid for the 99.9% of the other time they were on

Autozone replacement turn signals, 4x for the dash vents
There are some cheap bulbs painted red that fit

Take off the cluster trim so you can see strait in the center vent

Stuff the lights thru the middle vent out till you can barely see them poking around the end vents. Reach in and duct tape them barey out of sight so you cant see the bulb or tape. I used 2 lights for the middle vent since its larger, one on the left and one on the right. The far right vent you wont be able to reach to tape it in. I jsut wrapped padding around the end so it wouldnt rattle and fished it until I could barely see it. Tape the wires to the ducts so it doesnt move around.

I cut a small notch in the bottom of the center duct so the wires wouldnt get pinched when i put the cluster trim back on. Hooked them into a 12v and also into the courtesy lights so they turned on via switch and when I opened the doors

Took about 2 hours and $20
Very subtle change

with all the ligts I have on my car, I never put them in the vents. Thats my next project now.

I just finished changing my guage lights from the stock ornage to blue. They look so nice, its amazing.

EXCUSE ME? thats b.s.! In the fine state of Pennsylvania iv gotten pulled over twice for my neons and recieved one ticket for "distraction to drivers" iv been told that i could have recieved one ticket for every neon that I had but the cop was going to be "nice" and only give me one for $206. god i love this state

iv done this and it looks awesome...
i got about 20 streetglow led bolts and drilled small holes in every vent place 2 leds in each one, then I lined about 3in of the end of the vent in white reflective tape to give it a POP. I like to do things the right way so I dont have to come back and do them again. I hard soldierd everything together and put an inline fuse right before the switch. One switch for my led underkit and interior neons, it just looks cleaner that way. clutter bugs me and so does wires showing, im kind of **** about that stuff

The type of bulb inside the gauge cluster is a 194 mini wedge. If you go with an LED instead of halogen, make sure you get the ones from www.superbrightleds.com specifically part no. WLED-B5(thats for blue, but you can choose any color) because they have a wide light dispersal like a halogen would. Regular LEDs will act like spot lights only lighting up directly in front of them leaving un-lit parts on your gauges. Hope that helps.

i am interested in replacing the bulbs in my instrument cluster because the original red/orange has began to fade i think so i want something brighter more vivid so im debating the LEDs who all has done this and what where your results. i want the stock color light by the way

They come in all colors including amber or red as you can tell from above. They will turn out really nicely. I'll post some pics tomorrow night of them in blue.

You do not need to solder anything. If you get a 194 led bulb, it will plug into the socket just like the stock bulb. No hard work except for getting out the old bulbs. I had to use a needle nose pliers since they are recessed pretty far back.

As far as a step by step guide, just take apart your gauges till your left with just the bare gauges and the bulbs. Use some pliers to remove the bulbs. And then plug in the new ones. Thats it. Pretty easy if you ask me. It took me about 20 minutes all in all.

alright, how many bulbs do i buy? and which ones are for the blue led's? do i replace the bulbs that are in the black holder or the grey holder? other than knowing which ones to change it seems really easy

also i have seen different color lights for heater controls.. are they easy to change also?

I have been putting lighting in my car as well. I've used the 3inch LED strips from Optix (Streetglow.com), the wiper fluid nozzle lights (but not for wiper fluid), the LED bolts, as well as others.

For those interested... I ran my lights so that they light when the door opens AS WELL AS when the light switch is on at night. This was a trick to do, but I figured it out - it takes relays. The door switch makes a connection for ground when the door is opened. However, the light switch makes a connection for positive when turned on - a dilemna for a single light connection.

To make lights operate with the door, you need a relay. The relay is used between the door switch and the light. Connect into the neg wire from the back of the door switch, and run that wire to the relay 85. Run a wire from a positive always-on from the fuse block to relay 86 and 87. Then run the LED pos wire to relay 30 - ground the other LED wire anywhere.

What happens? The relay gets 12+ from the fuse block (86). The door opens, connecting the ground of the door to the relay (85), which in turn switches the relay "on" and runs power from relay 87 through relay 30 and to the light.

Now - the weird part. If you just went with this, and split the wires to the lights off the relay, and to the light switch, you'd end up with all the parking lamps on the exterior lighting up each time the door opened!
OK - maybe someone thinks it'd be cool - but the result is that ALL the draw for ALL the exterior park lights is running through your little LED - burns it up quick!

SO - in order to get the interior LED's to light with the lights on switch as well, another relay must be used - the second relay keeps the "door open" connection from "backfeeding" the entire park lamp system.

To wire in the second relay, run a lead from your light switch pos to relay 85, and ground relay 86 anywhere. Run a 12+ from fuse block to relay 87, and connect the LED pos wire to relay 30. Ground the other LED wire anywhere.

Now, what happens is that the door opens, making a ground, which allows the first relay to send power to the LED and the second relay - HOWEVER - the second relay is open since the light switch is off, and no power can backfeed through to the parking lights.

If you think about it all together, there are some short cuts with some creative splicing. For any part that needs 12+, you can run one wire to the fuse block, and splice into it as needed. Same for the grounds (except the door switch wire) - run a good ground connection, and splice into it as needed. You can use short jumper wires for 12+ on the relays (example the door switch relay needs 12+ on 87 & 86 - jump them with a splice going to the 12+ feed wire).

One final note - all cars may not have it, but mine happened to have an empty slot on the fuse block marked INST LAMP - a spade connector in this slot provides 12+ anytime the light switch is on.

So where did I put my lights? I used the 3inch LED strips under the dash panels on each side - lights the floor boards, but you can't see the lights as they are up underneath. These are nice - self stick tape already on the backs, very small, very bright, makes a nice glow. I used the washer fluid nozzles to light the rear floorboards - I drilled through the center console at the back corners, installed them facing down. The bolt LED I used inside the center console, to light it up inside at night. Although very few had the center console clock - it seems that most all F-bods have the hole in the center console for the adjuster **** from the clock - I simply put the LED bolt in that hole - it lights up the inside, and is out of the way, very small, and the wiring is under the console, so no pinched wires.

One last light - in mirror. I have the mirror with the map lights on each side - it also has a factory LED that shines on the shifter/ashtray area at night. I popped the pass side map light out, and removed the OEM white LED, to replace with green. However the LED was way too bright, so I stuffed a piece of plastic from an Excedrin bottle (green) in there, and installed my green LED (my car is Teal). Popped the map light back in, and now I have a cool green glow at shifter panel/ashtray area without disturbing the yellow lettering of the shifter, and without being annoying - you really can't tell there's any light, except for the fact that the shifter plate is visible instead of pitch black.

Sorry, no pics. It wouldn't do any justice anyway - lighting effects are impossible to see in pics - just look at anyones online ad for LED's and you'll see - pics suck. Hope the relay thing helps anyone interested.

ive seen a 4th gen camaro, my friends actually. it has a ton of bright white leds all around the car and i mean like everywhere. he has them wired to go on when the dome lights on/doors are opened which is pretty nifty at night. its like sitting in an ER

also for the switch to turn them off.... i have a neon in the front grill of my tbird. well apperantly neon blue was a bad choice. i have it hooked up to a switch that is near the headlight switch and looks very stock ... point of the story= getting pulled over for impersonating an officer is very expensive lol. so stay away from the blue outside neons. maybe the hidden switch works better on neons/leds on the inside

anyone try/have pics of leds or small neons in the vents on the hood of a TA?

Well I would recommend mounting it to the bottom, not the hood. Just easier to route the wires and to test clearance. There should be enough clearance to mount a neon bar there. You will just have to test it.

I"m not sure it will look all that great though. When I put the neon in my RamAir vents, the light shown through the inside of the hood through that gap your talking about. I hated the way it looked because it made it seem like my hood was open. I covered up the hole the neon was shining through so that it comes out just through the vents. It looks a ton better imo. Good luck man.

wow they want 37 dollars for the good leds, what about the red 194 bulbs at walmart or advance? they also come blue, 2 dollars a pair. i put the red bulbs in my dome light, the lights by the kick panels (door activated) and they look great. i also mounted a 6 led pod for lighting up my console under the middle of my dashpad and got the power from the little light that no one knows about behind the center air vents under the dash pad.

the direct 194 replacement bulbs for the camaro dash(91-92) i bought the led lights and i pried one of the stock bulbs out and looking at it the leads were soddered onto the sides of the unit, the new direct replacement bulb has the leads do i have to bend them over to make the m touch the sides? do i have to sodder them? or do i just put it in and it works?
