E Brake gets really really hot.

After about an hour of driving my e-brake handle gets really hot, and so does the surrounding area like the console and the side of the passenger seat. I looked up from underneath but didn't see anything obvious like the exhaust touching it or something. Any ideas of what's causing that? The last time I took my console out I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary, actually I was very surprised, I was expecting a much bigger hole or something but I don't think the e-brake handle actually protrudes through the floor does it? Could it be residual heat climbing the cable back to the handle?

Missing grommet where the line enters the car?

OK, A fix from under the car or inside?

Though I have no experience with the grommet, I'd guess working from the inside would be better/easier--this opinion from looking at the blowup of the piece in question.

Re: E Brake gets really really hot.

That makes sense. Today while driving it was in the low 80's so I had my driver's window down. The e-Brake handle got hotter than heck. Later I took it out for a spin but kept the windows rolled up. The e-brake handle stayed cool (normal). So I rolled down the window and it heated up again. So I thinking that with the windows rolled up there is pressure in the cabin which doesn't allow the heat in. When the windows are rolled down it creates a vacuum and pulls heat up from the bottom of the car throught that grommet, which I'll bet is missing. Anyway of posting the blowup you're talking about? And many thanks.

Sorry, the CD is apparently protected somehow.

I took the console out and took a good look at what was going on. Took it for a ride and could feel the air moving up from under the shift boot. I looked closer and noticed that I was missing 5 of the 7 bolts necessary to hold it in place. Problem solved.
