After about an hour of driving my e-brake handle gets really hot, and so does the surrounding area like the console and the side of the passenger seat. I looked up from underneath but didn't see anything obvious like the exhaust touching it or something. Any ideas of what's causing that? The last time I took my console out I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary, actually I was very surprised, I was expecting a much bigger hole or something but I don't think the e-brake handle actually protrudes through the floor does it? Could it be residual heat climbing the cable back to the handle?

Missing grommet where the line enters the car?

OK, A fix from under the car or inside?

Though I have no experience with the grommet, I'd guess working from the inside would be better/easier--this opinion from looking at the blowup of the piece in question.

That makes sense. Today while driving it was in the low 80's so I had my driver's window down. The e-Brake handle got hotter than heck. Later I took it out for a spin but kept the windows rolled up. The e-brake handle stayed cool (normal). So I rolled down the window and it heated up again. So I thinking that with the windows rolled up there is pressure in the cabin which doesn't allow the heat in. When the windows are rolled down it creates a vacuum and pulls heat up from the bottom of the car throught that grommet, which I'll bet is missing. Anyway of posting the blowup you're talking about? I took the console out and took a good look at what was going on. Took it for a ride and could feel the air moving up from under the shift boot. I looked closer and noticed that I was missing 5 of the 7 bolts necessary to hold it in place. Problem solved.
