Ok this is gona sound really stupid but where does it go?
the shifter????
It comes from the colum and runs by the drivers left foot kickpanle. Is that right or do I need to re-route it?

OR
can I get ride of it totaly? the car is not a daily more of a weekend racer toy for the street

Actually you need it to tell the car when it is in park, reverse, neutral, or drive.....if you try to disable it you could run into serious safety issues.

Just put it back where it goes on the shifter, I attached a picture.

It's an antitheft feature, not a safety feature.

So this cable isn't tied into the safety / neutral switch? If so, the safety neutral switch is in place to only allow the car to start in neutral or park....correct me if I'm wrong

Re: what the hell is this cable??

No, the cable has nothing at all to do with the park/neutral switch. The P/N switch is on the shifter itself.

Re: what the hell is this cable??

all it does is prevent the steering wheel from locking when the car is in drive.
it is disabled on my car because i installed an aftermarket shifter.

just make sure that if it is disabled, that it is all the way in, so that the steering wheel can lock and you can remove the key.

Re: what the hell is this cable??

It prevents you from pushing the shifter button so you can't take the car out of park without the key.

If they are the wires I'm thinking off they are the wires for the neutral saftey switch. If that is in fact what they are the car will not start without them connected togather, or installed properly on the neutral saftey switch. On a manual trans car they would be the wires for the clutch saftey switch. Kind of sounds like my old car... it isn't an 89 with a sunroof that you bought as roller in central NJ is it?

Re: what the hell is this cable??

The park lock cable is suppose to run under the carpet and come up around the area of the center console with a loop towards the firewall. If those wires are indeed the wires I think they are you would be best to wire them into a neutral saftey switch so the car can only be started in neutral and park and not in gear, or to a clutch saftey switch so the car can't be started unless the clutch is depressed. However if you simply connect them togather it will work, you will just lose the saftey feature of not being able to start the car if it's in gear, that is if they are indeed the wires I think they are. If you could post a picture of them I could confirm it for you.

Re: what the hell is this cable??

the park lock cable attaches to the base of the shifter and is actuated when you push the shifter button.

the purple and orange wires attach to a wiring harness that also goes to the shifter.

id post a pic, but i just replaced my shifter.
as stated earlier, if you wire them together, you will be able to engage the starter with the car in drive or reverse.
its really just a safety thing.

there should also be 4 other wires that go to this harness.
the piece is white or black plastic.
i will post asap with the order they go in

i wish you had posted this earlier cause i literally just tossed all the original stuff from my shifter and wiring...

oh well.
flea bay is your friend i guess.
