Re: Tint?
Too dark?
I know that in Texas, there is a legal limit to what you can do on the backwindow, the two back windows, and it's illegal to tint your windshield.
I wonder what the law is on a two door vehicle?

Re: Tint?
Illinois says its illegal to tint the front side windows and you can go as dark as you want anything behind them. Even spray paint them black. Most people go with 35% on the sides, and at least here, the police won't mess with you if its 35% or more.

Re: Tint?
TX law....
35% on the 2 front door windows, left & right of the driver.....
Back doors & rear window, no restriction.....
Windshield unrestricted, as long as above the AS1 line at the top.
BUT....There is also a LEGAL way around all the above laws I listed, with a medical exemption.....

Re: Tint?
definite yay man..just be careful of who you chose to tint your windows..do a lil research and youll find the best place for you to get it done at...remember, do it right the first time so you wont have to get it done over and over again..
Ive got 20% in the front(which will be changed to 25% once the car is back on the road since I just read TX's tint laws)..and Ive got 5% on the hatch..it gives it a sinister look and it does help a little with the temperature inside the car, although the temp change is miniscule, not having the sun cook your interior is very nice

Re: Tint?
I had my dad's Grand Prix done about ten days after he bought it.
Did the legal limit all the way around, but I can't remember how much it cost.
Will have to talk to my mother and see if she knows.
I am thinking about doing it as dark as I can all the way around.
The AC on my car is kind of crap, and even if it were working, that bogs down the gas milage. It's most cost effective to pay for tint and keep me cool.

Actually, I believe what he is saying that he is concurring with what you said, and not what I said.
I am not sure that the website I linked to was up to date.
So perhaps you're right. I would assume it, either way.
Let us not tossle, dear friends. Just a light, inquisitive discussion!

Re: Tint?
thats a hell yay! I have 20% on my sides and stock on the hatch, eventually it will be 5%. Cops don't bother with minor stuff like tint or street racing around here. Besides not having t-tops shades allows more light in the cabin making the 20% lighter than it really is...

Re: Tint?
Keep the tint legal and you will not have a problem. It is the dark blackout that the cops hate and you will pay for it. So don't give them a reason to pull you over no matter how cool you think it looks.

Re: Tint?
I'll say it like this, call a local tint shop they can tell you what you legally can tint your windows too.
Personally, I have a 96 Silverado with 15% percent on the back windows, can't see anything behind me except for the mirrors. I have 50% on the front because I cannot legally tint my front windows, (haven't been pulled over yet) it's nice cause it cuts the initial glare off the sun, but it's not so dark that you really notice.
On my 89 Camaro I bought it with 30% or so I was told by the "nice" policeman that pulled me over at a gas pump. That is all the windows, but the windsheild. I see just fine out of it, day and night.

Re: Tint?
Keep in mind....The rating you buy, does not necessarily make it automatically legal.
"But Officer, I bought 20% tint, so I'm legal.".....Well, not really.
If the factory puts a 5% anti-glare tinting in the factory film between the glass layers (like on the windshield), then you put 20% on top of THAT. No, your not automatically at 15%. Generally, that amounts to 17%/18% on the police meter that measures the glass.
Now....Cops will generally allow 17% to slide by. But if you gice him lip/**** him off, he'll bust you for 19% AND WIN!
I enjoy letting cops bust out their meter..."Sir, your tint is illegal. I'm issuing you a ticket & your gonna hafta strip it off RIGHT NOW!" And this is where I **** them off....
"Oh sir? I have these papers here, from DPS, that exempts me from the window tint law. You'll find all my paperwork in order. Write me a ticket, make me strip it, and I'll see YOU in court & file charges against the dept, in which YOU will be required to pay to retint my car."
Works every time & no officer has pushed it to find out. Almost wish one would!
As for the link provided above...It's SO wrong. Ignore it & go to the source... TXDPS

Re: Tint?
another thing you should watch out for is some places tint is illegal period for the front windows. the cop told me when i got pulled over "aftermarket tint is illegal period because if you get in an accident the glass sticks together in one big sheet defeating the purpose of tempered glass and becomes very dangerous" you should just check on that before you do anything

Re: Tint?
On one of my '86s, I went with 25% (?) on the sides and 5% on the back. The sides are light enough that the local cops leave me alone. Although, I don't like the 5% on the rear because it's too dark. On a sunny day with the t-tops off, I cant see anything in the rear view mirror.

Re: Tint?
i have mine as dark as legal, and it's so hard to back up at night, almost impossible. looks killer though. just go to your tint shop and tell them make it as dark as legal and they'll know exactly what to do, it'll look good, and you'll never get hassled.

Re: Tint?
I've got 5% on my hatch, which drastically reduced the temp in the car during the day. I got it done by a pro for $50. I haven't gotten around to getting the sides done since I'm planning on getting new inner/outer sweeps before I get it done.
On my truck I have 2 1/2% on the rear window and 5% on the sides.

Re: Tint?
ONLY complaint i have about tint is that our cars already have low visiblity out the back, then add tint and the night and its IMPOSSIBLE to see out the back. Its hard to see where your backing up at night. Other then that go get your car tinted...you will love it. Have a professional do it. Like stated before check around and ask about local shops. Ive found a good local shop about 30 mins away that will do custom graphic tint and everything. They do amazing work.

Click window tint>photo gallery>custom work to view their custom work. They do some sweet stuff.
