Re: which leds

You might investigate the following link (I purchased from them when I went to LED's in my overhead console.):

Re: which leds

If you go superbrights you'll need to get bulbs with at least 4 leds in them, preferably with 6. My Firebird actually has bulb cover on the incandescent lights and it's plenty bright and even.

Re: which leds

hmm its hard to say what color they will shine. Did they shine with just regular incandescent bulbs? I did this to my Z not to bad they are with 5mm ebay leds I'm pretty happy with the results. My suggestion is I would get the leds separate that way I can put them where ever I wanted to get the best results. From what i heard try putting foil tape like aluminum tape something shiny between the clear lens and the face plate with the shiny side facing the gauges to try and reflect the light back on the faces of the gauges. I'm gonna try starting the after I get done building my girl back up.

Re: which leds

They might light blue...if the brighnest of the surrounding leds is brighter than the needle. Otherwise the needles will glow color that doesn't look to good ever mix orange and blue together its a brown of some sort. I know of mods that make that surrounding light blue but right underneath the gauge needles they put white leds to make the orange needles glow orange. They also paint the whole surrounding area of the cluster black on the inside to help trap the light. I wouldn't recomend on the camaro nor the trans-am clusters though. Another thing you might want to do 88fastgta is to sand off the back side of the gauges to allow the led light though whatever color you are planning. If you were close to me I would tell you to send me your cluster and I would do the work for you, but you're not sorry. I hope this helps you.

Re: which leds

Yeah should be cool for what you want to go for. I would still put foil tape on just to reflect the blue light back to the gauges. Looks good.

Re: which leds

Don't know if this will help much but. On an older post about this I remember someone saying that they removed the needles and sanded off the old orange paint and then painted them the back light color (think it was green in their case). I think it'll just depend on how bright your LED's are. As far as foil the only place I could think of would be the back of the cluster "bucket," unlike Camaros, Firebirds have transparent gauge markings instead of being lit from around the gauges. Therefore, I don't think that the foil tape will help all that much.

Re: which leds

Yup sorry. Novafirebirdguy is right I for some reason or another thought you had a camaro i see now that you have a GTA duh me. Anyways the foil tape you could put on the back of the cluster (the white plastic) to reflect the light whatever might be given off back to the gauges themselves. This will make it a bit brighter for you. Again forgive my ignorance sorry I didn't see your GTA.
