Re: Interior Tear Down

Yes I'm pretty sure the console will have to come out. Shifter **** will have something like a big staple in the front side of it. You'll have to dig that out of the **** to remove it.

There is a hidden screw you will have to look and make sure you remove the emerg. brake handle (careful of the small screw) and pull the handle all the up and turn the console as you remove.

Small screwdriver works best.

Have a look at my build thread in my sig. I replaced my entire interior with NOS pieces. Some of the pics should help you. Feel free to PM if you need more help.

Re: Interior Tear Down

Removal of the rear seat backs are giving me trouble. I appreciate the tip on taking the shifter **** off, I was trying to push that staple IN and not dig it out. So thanks!

The rear seat has a torq bit, which I do have, but there's no room to get the ratchet on the torq bit.... what tool do you use to get that rear seat backs removed?

Re: Interior Tear Down

Rear seat backs are removed by taking out the 13 mm swivel bolts on the bottom. Top torx bolts stay in, just pull lever to disengage the seat(or seats) from those pins

Re: Interior Tear Down

Just a tip on the rear seatback... much easier to see and get at if you remove the bottom part of the rear seats first.

Re: Interior Tear Down

Yeah thanks, I did find that all I had to do was remove the nut instead of that torx bit.
Guess what else, as I'm swapping the interior from the RS to this Iroc, there is NO PINS to hook the rear seat backs to! I could bolt the seat backs in, but there's nothing to hinge them on over the hump. Maybe someone figured they would have more room for the passengers if they just removed the seat backs and left the bottoms in? Then they removed the pins?

Or was there a change in the way they mounted the seat backs? I doubt it. Also, get this..........
................... There are some kind of boxes, or maybe they are relays under the center console. It's a wired box, with what looks like glue holding the internals together. The RS I have has these boxes screwed to mounts, but just like the rear seat back pins, the mounts for these relay/boxes things don't have anything there to screw them to! This car is weird. But it's a monster so I'll drive it for awhile, buy some bolt ons and probably put everything in another thirdgen someday.

Re: Interior Tear Down

For the rear seat backs there are two styles a solid one piece back that folds down or the split rear back that each half folds down. The split rear seat uses a bracket that is spot welded to the trans/drive shaft tunnel as the inside mounting hinge point. These can sometimes be found on ebay and members here have been known to take the time to get them off and sell them.

Re: Interior Tear Down

Thanks Phoenix I was wondering why I didn't see any marks from spot welds. I have another RS car in the yard that has the pins welded to the trans tunnel. There's different seats you say.... I actually like the idea of just having the seat bottoms and they have more room back there IF I have that many passengers. They could use the seat belts too as well.

Re: Interior Tear Down

I would be wondering how comfortable that would be without a seat back but you can try sitting in there yourself and see. Do a search on ebay for seats 82 Camaro and also 93 Camaro. One of the listings will show the one piece back seat.
I have the one piece back seat in my Firebird but am going to weld in the pin hinge bracket for the split back seat. I got the whole bracket and nuts for the seat backs at the hinge side and other parts for $5 on ebay. No other bidders.
