Digital Dashboard '84

Hey guys I have an 84 z28 and right now my spedomater only goes to 140km and honestly thats not enough for me im a kid i love my car and i love to go fast :P But I want to switch my dash from mechanical to digital and I am curious if anyone has done it or knows if it is possible? I know the berlinettas went digital in 85 would that dash fight into a z28?

Thank you,

Berlinettas went digital in 84. As far as switching it is possible, but you would have to change over the whole dash and all the wiring to the Berlinetta style. Like I said it would be possible, but very labor intensive.

While not digital and not your first choice, the easiest solution is to simply swap in a mechanically driven 140 mph speedo head.

Re: Digital Dashboard '84

Sell the 84, and buy an 85+.

We don't need any more hacked up early 3rd gens.

Or, even better, don't go more than 85mph. If you do that all the time, you're either going to wind up wrapped around a tree, or have your license revoked.

I was referring to the OP. What worries me is that he said "I'm a kid and I like to go fast". He can't even type correctly, I doubt he would be able to control a car at 85+ mph if something were to happen. All it takes is one bump, one pothole.

Re: Digital Dashboard '84

Hi Guys, i found a cheap way to go digital is to install one of the cheap Chinese gps units that run the IGO8 software... . You can then download a skin (theme) for it and have digital speedometer readout.. Similar to this one on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/7-Car-GPS-Na...item415ee8c72b

The best thing about these is they are gps based and are accurate and as there are lots of skins you can customize the dials.. I am working on a bank of 4 to replace my dash at some stage as the gps also has a video input so its just a matter of getting some programming done to emulate rpm, oil and water..

if you do a google image search for IGO8 Digital speedometer you will see what i mean.. hey its easy and does look good when molded into place.. only real downside is that when the gps boots up it wont go to speedo automatically so you need to use the touch screen.. but i am sure it can be hacked to default to that screen.

Amen brother, I'm with you. There are many posts I'd like to comment on at TGO but with rampant spelling errors and unreadable grammar, half the time I don't know what is being asked. Spell checking and proofreading before one hits submit will get much better respomses.
