I'm looking to put new carpet in my car and was wondering if anyone else has used regular carpet by the yard whether its house carpeting or something like that. I'm really not worried about the sound deadening or anything like that since the car rarely sees anything but the track. Just kind of wondering if it is do able with the shape of the floor.

I don't think it would work without having wrinkles and stuff everywhere. Our cars have a lot of contours inside from the passenger floor board, transmission tunnel and even the back seat are elevated. You might be able to make it work if you were good at seaming it together.

Hawks carries replacements on their website. I've never used them but looks like it ranges from $160 (cargo), $175 (cabin floor), or $260 (complete set).

i would suggest using that rather than trying to install cheaper carpet. carpet advertised at hawks is moulded specifically to the shape of your car, and would be much easier to install, and last longer than regular house carpet anyway.

Other than being able to see all of the floor pans, you could just use a roll on bed liner kit sold in the auto parts stores. I guess as long as your racing it only then it doesn't really matter.

I still think a factory molded carpet set would look best!

Another tip....If you happened to find a decent carpet set, you can take black spray paint and spray the carpet and then with disposable gloves, run your fingers throughout the fabric to saturate and spread out the paint. Once it dries repeat the process without spraying it again to loosen up the fibers to look like new! Used car lots do this regularly!
