Knight Rider interior plastics color?

I have a 91 firebird that came with the beechwood interior plastics, has almost an orangey tan look to it. What color were KITT's interior plastics exactly? I think they were a lighter tan or light buckskin color but I'm not entirely sure. And before I invest in this I want to get the right color. Does this look about right?

Well I'm not sure, what color Universal studios used back in the 80's. I guess they just took what Pontiac delivered and so I believe it was the Tan version. Here is a side by side comparison of the colors I used a while back, see post 53

Re: Knight Rider interior plastics color?

Yeah I can see what you mean, what I'm looking for is probably closer to the Palomino in color. Thank you for sharing with me, very nice car btw!

Re: Knight Rider interior plastics color?

They were Camel Tan (64C), a carryover from the 78-80 interior color used on 82-84 models.

Re: Knight Rider interior plastics color?

So they were more of a brownish color than the yellow color I was thinking of, okay. Thanks!

Re: Knight Rider interior plastics color?

The 78-80 Camel Tan code was 62C, the 82-84 was 64C. There might be a difference. I have many 2nd gen Camel Tan parts, but no 3rd gen parts in that color so I can't compare to be sure.

I wouldn't guess the color on 80's tv show stills :P The colors are always a bit wrong.

Find pictures of 82-84 Firebirds or Camaros with the Camel Tan interior, look here : http://www.82firebird.com/galleryinterior.aspx

Re: Knight Rider interior plastics color?

Well, I guess the $74k question is, if you were to try and match this color what color name would you suggest would be closest just from the naked eye? I admit in those pics you linked to, the plastics have sort of a mild brownish-yellow I suppose. Hard to say.

Re: Knight Rider interior plastics color?

...Camel Tan ? Honestly that's a pretty good name for the color, look at the color of a Camel :

It's a brownish tan with a bit of orange in it.

Re: Knight Rider interior plastics color?

I would do plastics last...
Are you buying premade seat kits? Acme makes them in that shiny disco material that is one color one way and slightly darker / lighter the other direction.... (the actual name of the fabric escapes me)... But I was not happy with that material, nor color selection...

I went and found a fabric and color I liked, then sent them to Acme (that makes the seat kits) and they used my material to make the seats... I put a pic in the other post...
After that, then I matched the paint with SEM Palamino, which was the closest to my fabric...

Kitt was a lighter color (or at least it appeared on TV)... I wanted a richer color, with more pop.... They are selling remade "original" material, but it looks way dark (in person) than any of the pictures I've seen on TV (which looked faded)....

Get samples before you buy any fabric, or find what you need locally... 10 yard minimum... then go with the paint...

Re: Knight Rider interior plastics color?

Yes they're pre-made, I'm working on reupholstering them now. I went with classic industries's toast/sandstone color and overall I'm happy with it. Right now I'm trying to get some swatches from a seller on ebay who has the SEM paint. So far, I've narrowed it down to what Raptor mentioned, the camel tan and palomino.

Re: Knight Rider interior plastics color?

i had a local auto upholstery shop repaint all of my camel tan interior about 4 years ago. they got SEM paint, but said the closest color match they could get was actually a Mercedes color. they used the back of the panel to select the color since the backside wasn't faded like the front. i still have some of the paint left, but unfortunately the can does not have any identifying numbers or color name on it.
below is a picture of one of the hatch panels. the color is slightly off, but it looks way better than what it was before. the fabric was selected to match the reproduction carpet i purchased from ACC.
