My car broke
So, I was driving back to Canada today. I was sitting in a traffic jam for 2 hours in Chicago and the car started to act weird. I thought it was being difficult and just adjusted the way I was driving so it wouldnt stall or whatever else it wanted to do.
So, I tap the gas, release the clutch, car stalls. Im like WTF. Im in the middle of an interstate and I cant start the car again. I put on my four ways. Finally it turns over. I rev the **** out of it, dump the clutch and get off the interstate and park the car on a side road in downtown Chicago.
Turns out, my fuel pressure is right down. Every time I give it gas, it revs up after 2 seconds or so. If I let off the gas, it goes to idle and stalls out. When I turn the car on, I get 20 psi of fuel pressure. Then after 30 seconds of running, it starts to go down until it shuts itself off...
What could be wrong here? I have a few month old Walbro 255 in the tank, Aeromotive fuel pressure regulator, few month old fuel filter... No gas leaking on the ground...
Im at a loss as to what is happening...
Anyways, picture time

Re: My car broke
I'd check your fuel filter. A little gunk can clog it right up.
BTW, 20 psi is not anywhere what the EFI on these engines requires.
Is the return on your regulator in good order? The fuel pump wants to run free. The regulator has to dump fuel back to the tank with out causing any backpressure build up. If the pump has to pump against excess pressure, itwill burn up the pump.
GREAT threads!!! I love your car and the documentation. The trouble you and others have taken does a good job of showing the troops what gives. I'm looking for an LS1, need I say more?

Re: My car broke
check the things in the first post if that does not help make sure your return line is free of obstrctions, or if you removed charcoal canister and just blocked the hoses you then run into vapor lock wich would need to be fixed or run a vented fuel cap.(i removed my can and plugged them all figured out the problem unplugged the hose car always smelt like gas so i plugged it and went the vented route.

Re: My car broke
Hmm odd. Check the voltage at the pump and make sure the filters good and no leaks anywhere etc. check pressure b4 reg too if poss I'm sure you'l find a smoking gun there somewhere. Bummer though.
Its not unheard of to have fuel pumps go bad even when they are new so thats a possibility although unlikely its possible.
