I'm on my way!!!!

So, here's the deal guys and gals. I finally got my engine (lQ4/9) with harness and ecu at the house, along with my accessory drive, alternator, water pump, starter, ps pump, and exhaust manifolds. On the way is my complete ls1 intake (thanks man, not sure if you wanted to be named for this), and oil pan setup. I'll take pics hopefully tomorrow sometime and will be asking some random questions more than likely. Also, how are you guys bolting your engines onto the engine stands?

Re: I'm on my way!!!!

congrats on joining the ranks. I'm currently amassing my parts for my swap too (thanks tax check). engine's in the driveway, manifold's in the shed, accessories in the mail, and oil pan's waiting for me to get money

think you got your answer over on LS1tech, but I'll share for the guys over here. The bolts are 10mm, 1.5 thread pitch. the arms on the stand can vary, so you may need to grab a couple different lengths.

Re: I'm on my way!!!!

BTW what do you guys think of using an LS6 cam and LS2 lifters? Is there anything else that needs to be done to swap these in and is it worth it?

Re: I'm on my way!!!!

the cam would depend on what you're spending for it. if you're getting a reallllly good deal on it, go for it. but if you're buying new or close to it, probably better looking at some of the other aftermarket offerings out there.

lifter-wise, it seems the go to upgrades are the ls7 lifters if you do anything other than stock.

Re: I'm on my way!!!!

Both will be shipped for $215...the cam has almost 30xxx miles on it. I'm guessing it's a good deal but wanted to see what you all thought since I really don't know.

Re: I'm on my way!!!!

how many miles are on your current lifters? If they're still in good shape and low-ish miles, no need to buy them just to buy them. $250 seems to be about the going rate for used cams for these motors, so you may want to hold off and go something a bit more in line with that motor's demands

Re: I'm on my way!!!!

I don't think the gains of an LS6 cam swap are worth that $. If the lifters are good, you could pick up a decent aftermarket for that much. That said, any cam swap.. LS6 or otherwise should have a valve spring upgrade.

Thanks guys...i'm taking your advice and passing on that. Hopefully I can put up pics tonight...I'm excited. Gonna take the harness and computer off of the engine and get to work on that exciting task.

Re: I'm on my way!!!!

OK. I'm really slow about getting pics up but I got one heck of a surprise early this morning. I get up about 4:30 to check for snow, I needed to know if I had to get my daughter up for school, and I see a box sitting on my back porch. I bring it in and it's my oil pan setup...hooray!!! I wasn't expecting it until tomorrow. Oh yeah...maybe I can get some pics up soon......hmmmmm

Re: I'm on my way!!!!

Yeah...just need to finish paying for my transmission swap (T56 YEAH BABY!!!) and hopefully...i'll be pretty much finished paying for crap...lol. Spent all day to find out I'm never gonna get the engine mounted on the stand so we're doing all we can with it on the cherry picker (why is it called that...hmmmm). Anyway you'll get there...I wish i knew you were still needing an oil pan setup b/c I saw one for $50, of course that's after I pay $185 for mine. LOL. The nature of the beast I guess.
