Couple quick wiring questions...

Anyone have a diagram or list/description of which plug is which on the T56 transmission? All the plugs look the same to me.

Where can I find the wire to the starter from the key to turn engine over? Its 87 Formula 350 and all the old TPI wiring on passenger side is long gone. So I presume I need to find the wire under the dash but am not sure where to look.

And lastly... I know the two "red" wires here go to the battery positive terminal...but where does the pinkish one go? its terminal is two small to go over battery so I was wondering if it was some kind of ground or something? These are at the very end of the cable coming from drivers side bulk head connector... C100 I think?

I figured I better ask versus screw things up and I couldn't find anything searching...though I admit I suck at it.

Re: Couple quick wiring questions...

Those wires all go down to the starter usually I believe. Thats what powers most of your interior electronics. There would have been a purple wire coming off the bulkhead connector...that would have been the starter wire.

You should have kept the big bulkhead connector, and just removed thew ires that you didnt need. There are only a couple wires from that connector that you'll need really.

A haynes book does a pretty decent job with wiring diagrams for that stuff. But you can also go on Autozone's website. They have TONS of good wiring diagrams. You have to register with the site I think, but its worth it. Its all pulled from All Data I believe. Between that, and searches here, you should be all set.

Dont let the wiring scare you... But dont rush through it either. Take your time because a properly wired set up will be reliable and cleaner than something you rushed through.

Oh and here's the T56 connector locations/labels.

CAGS, VSS and Reverse lockout are on the driver's side. And the reverse switch plug is on the passenger side.

Ahhh that explains it! And sadly all the passenger side wiring was gone when I got body. The C100 wiring is intact luckily...well other than two splices for gauges so far.

So those two big red terminals go to the large terminal on the starter and the purple one goes to the selonoid???? I feel dumb lol

Now to find out where the big wires off the positive terminal go too. I assume big one to big terminal on starter and other positive wire to terminal on alternator...

And thank you for transmission plugs too!

Re: Couple quick wiring questions...

I thought I saw the purple wire in that picture... yes the orange and red wires go to the starter lug. The purple wire goes the small little terminal on the solenoid. You can test it with a test light or meter just to be sure that there is 12v when cranking on that wire. Just to be safe.

Passenger side wiring...not sure what all you mean, but there isnt much over there. Most of the wires you need are over at the main bulkhead...c100.

You are correct on the two wires coming from the battery positive. One will go behind the alt, and the other goes down to the big lug on the starter. The red wires that attach to the starter will have 12v all the time. The orange wires will supply voltage for things like the radio...that are only on when the key is on or in acc.

Sounds like youre on the right track there... If you run into more issues, and do some searching, let us know. The wiring isnt too bad once you get into it. Tho its probably the most intimidating until you do.

What you're calling the "pink" wire with small terminal should be the starter signal wire, which is purple. If you clean up that wire, or pull it out of the loom further up the run, I'm sure you'll see it is actually purple.

The part of mine that was exposed sure looked pink when I took it apart. When I pulled it out of the bundle, it was very purple.

Re: Couple quick wiring questions...

T56 connectors are easier to ID by wire color since two of the connectors are identical

VSS is lt grn/blk and ppl/wht
Rev lock is Lt grn and pnk
CAGS is gry and pnk
Back up lights is lt grn and brn

Not having a C207 may not be the end of the world. Your fan, INJ 1, 2, PCM IGN fuses all go through there along with your speedo signal and P/neutral wire

These can be ran separate or moved to a separate fuseblock. Alternately you can find an in line connector with the proper number of wires and simply cut off the dash side C207 and solder the new connector in with your own pin assignments

We're trying to pool information on this site, so Im rewriting a bunch of my wiring threads. Heres a compilation of C100/C207 pinouts and wire uses. You may find this useful

That's another question... where on the connectors are these numbers located? I know what the C100 connector is even though I dont see it written on there... but what/where is the 207, etc. etc.

And I may be able to salvage the 207 connector off a friends tpi car perhaps. If he didn't butcher the harness that is.

Re: Couple quick wiring questions...

Grab it off a V6 car unless his TPI harness is already chopped up

C207 is the clear connector near the ECM. 87 may also have a C221 for the injectors and fan fuses. Its a small gray 6 wire connector within 8" of the C207

i still have several of the connectors under the dash in there area where the ecm was and the speedo buffer box is there. I wonder if one of those is it. I'll have to look tonight when I get home.
