v6 to lt1, speedo / Engine braking

Hey guys...

I switched the tailshaft housing and plastic speedo gear from the v6 4l60 to the lt1 4l60e.... But since the lt1 was supposed to have electric vss, and that also enables engine braking... what do I do?

I want my stock gauges to work, i dont want to spend money on something i dont need.. like newer or custom gauges...

do i need engine braking? im sure my camaro didnt have a decel fuel cutoff before, i could see it being handy tho in a hard decel situation...

is there a workaround to have both?

thanks

Yup, or use the electric VSS from the new trans to power a cable driver box

You're going to need a different gauge for the RPM anyway since had a V6, why not just replace all gauges with ones from a V8 91-92 camaro with the electric speedo? Think it would be not much price difference between those and a cable converter box. Might be cheaper.

Re: v6 to lt1, speedo / Engine braking

Hey guys here is my dilemma....

I CUT the old speedo gear off of the lt1 4l603, and put the plastic one from the v6 700R4 in place... Now I find out that the LT1 computer needs this speedo gear for other things, like fuel tables, engine braking (which i could do without) and to SHIFT!
I thought it could shift without knowing the speed... isnt rpm sufficiant? Why cant I just delete this out of the LT1 computer???

Whats my cheapest way out?

Find another 4L60E in a JY then pull the reluctor ring and VSS to install back in there

The PCM output wire will drive a cable box so your mech speedo will function
