Notching k member for swap

Is this mandatory? I've also seen sbc oil pans made for LS. Would that help any? Trying to clear this up.

Using 1" setback mounts (hawks/spohn or SBC adapter plates) will put the engine just barely past the K-member without mods when using a Fbody LS1 oil pan. You cannot install the engine/trans combo from the top like this, only from the bottom. It also limits how far down the engine will tilt with the trans removed. Semi helpful for manual conversions, hell to reach the BH bolts on autos. FWIW, I never notched mine

Low mount LSx AC compressors REQUIRE the notch. High mount R4 and sanden compressors require no mods
