5.3 truck swap into berlinetta

im Looking for some assistance. Im about to swap a 5.3 yukon engine and trans 4l60e into my 84 Berlinetta Camaro. Wondering what the best route is for computer setup. I would like to be able to save on the swap itself as much as possible so i have some money leftover for upgrades. A lot of people say get the Terminator X setup but i cant get myself to spend 1000+ on it. The donor vehicle is a 100% complete Yukon. So i have the computers and harness and all. Do i need JUST the Yukons engine and trans harness? Just engine harness? Should i buy a standalone harness? Im getting all kinds of mixed answers and thought id ask the pros.

Re: 5.3 truck swap into berlinetta

Yes, absolutely use the donor computer and harness.

From what I've seen, using an aftermarket computer is just opening up a can of worms.
Use the Yukon's engine/ trans harness, and the gas pedal and DBW throttle body control module (if it's DBW.)

If it has electric fans, take the wiring for that, too. I'd take the battery cables too, and don't forget the starter.

READ THE STICKIES, ESPECIALLY "HOW TO PREP A THIRD GEN HARNESS," AND "LS1 HARNESS START TO FINISH."

Read a bunch of user's build threads; the high-dollar and the low buck ones; EVERY build is different, and you will see different problems solved in different ways.

Ask questions in the appropriate places (don't bump threads that are years old).

Good luck, and have fun.

84 camaro to 04 yukon powertrain

so im about to begin tearing down the 04 yukon parts car. Do i even touch the wiring to take with me? Or just computers and engine and trans? 4l60e transmission and 5.3 engine. As for the getting power to the rear, can i use my stock driveshaft and rear? Looking to spend as little as possible on the actual swap so i can save for the mods to follow. I know the stock rear in mine is a posi rear. I assume it wont hold for long. But hoping to keep it just to get the swap running and driving. So all in all i guess I'm asking which wires should i take and can i use my stock driveshaft and rear to get this swap driving. If anyone has a thread of a build list for this swap id appreciate it. Also ive heard that i can and cant keep stock crossmembers. People have said i dont have to touch it to get the car running other people say notch it. Others say swap it.
Lastly, am i better off using my current transmission. RPO code is MXO so i believe its a 700r4 transmission. Versus getting the output shaft on yukon trans changed to be 2wd vs 4wd. If so do i need an adapter plate to make the 700r4 work?
Going from 84 Berlinetta with a 305 to 04 yukon powertrain.

Re: 84 camaro to 04 yukon powertrain

Get the engine wiring harness its real easy to make a stand alone harness. Just need to remove emission sensors and inlgnition to pink wires and battery power to orange. It will save you $ to do it yourself. If you have 700r4 trans going to 4l60e 2wd trans driveshaft will be the same. If your keeping ac you will need to notch pass. Front of crossmember. I used hawks mounts & trans crossmember kit with 4th gen oil pan and didn't need to notch rear of crossmember but I did take a big hammer and pounded it in flat about 3/8 and now I have 1/4 clearance in the worst spot after install.

Re: 84 camaro to 04 yukon powertrain

The '84 rear will be 26 spline axles. Pretty weak. With normal driving you won't have issues, but don't plan on abusing it with sticky tires until you get a better rear.

Using the TH700 would be a mistake, in my opinion. Unless you replace the valve body, you will have to rig up a TV cable to the throttle body - possible, but not easy. Bowtie Overdrives may have what you need, but I haven't checked lately. It's an inferior transmission to the LS 4L60E regardless.

If the Yukon is 4WD, the 4L60E will not work directly in your car. See if you can swap it for a 2WD 4L60E (of the LS vintage).

I'm not much of a fan of the factory PCM for LS swaps. Yes, I did it, but options were few in 2010 when I did my swap. I'd highly recommend going with an aftermarket EFI system. I'm running the FiTech system in my shoebox, and plan on converting to that system when I upgrade the LS in my thirdgen. It's a highly superior system, self-learning so you don't have to pay for dyno tunes, the harness is easy to connect into your chassis, it is available with transmission control, and you can get it with an intake manifold that will fit sweet in your thirdgen. Other outfits also make LS EFI systems, but they will be more expensive. Bottom line is there are choices for LS EFI that weren't available 10 years ago.

Didn't realize you have posted in both Engine Swap forums. I combined them so all the info will be in one place.
