My car got hit by a Tree...
No joke I was driving down Ohara (a road where I live) and a tree branch about 20 inches around and the length of a 2 lane road fell from the sky and slammed onto my hood and windshield. My front end is all beat up and I dont know whats gonna happen to it...

Re: My car got hit by a Tree...
The city can't call it totaled. THEIR property damaged your car, THEY have to pay, to make it right. Now, they COULD call it totaled, because they don't wanna fork out that much money, but if they do, I'd think they owe you a car.
Maybe you can score an ex-police 4th Camaro, as a replacement! Ls1? I'm not crazy about the 4th gens, just the driveline.

Re: My car got hit by a Tree...
oh my.. how the hell does something like that even happen?! man, what rotten luck.
the way I see it is you have three choices;
1. you determin the car is totalled, then you and the city sit down and determin an apporpriate replacement value for your car (they write you a cheque)
2. you take the car to several body shops and have them provide estimates to repair any and all damages that resulted from this accident. you then provide the estimates to the city and they will cut you a cheque for repair costs
3. you take the vehicle to your insurance company. they will determin the damages and whether or not to call the vehicle a complete loss. you pay your deductable and your insurance company either has your car repaired or they cut you a cheque for a write-off. in return, your insurance comany then goes after the city to replace the money they paid out to you (whether it is repairs of write off)
...either way, the city is going to have to pay.
I would suggest #2 if you wanted to keep the car, and this will also keep it off your insurance.
good luck!

Re: My car got hit by a Tree...
Thanks for the replies guys, I have a little more information since the accident.
1. The tree is owned by SOMEONE not the city...
2. I have taken the car to body shops and the estimates all seem to be about the same (around $4500-$5000) Seeing as how I paid $2500 for my car I believe the insurance company will total it and I will get some money for a new car.
3. My parents aren't going to allow me to buy another Camaro, they want me to have a 4cyl truck...
thanks again.

Re: My car got hit by a Tree...
Here is the deal you have to go after the land owner's insurance. All you have to do is contact landowner and get his insurance information. Once you have that you can contact the insurance company provide them with several quotes for the repairs. Then if they give you any hassle tell them that you are not interested in getting another vehicle and that until the incident there were only minor defects in the condition of the car. You just want enough to repair it back to the condition of before the incident. I would not settle for anything less than the insurance paying for all damages to be repaired.

As you can see... the only real damage is to both the fenders, the front ground fx, the hood, and my windshield. Ohhh yeah and the paint but its just a scratch...

Man that sucks, I that happened to me as well. Nothing like a wake up call saying that your wife is late for work and there is a tree on your car, one that you just finished the night before. So I feel your pain.

Re: My car got hit by a Tree...
it'll rub out.
lol But seriously it's not even structural. If you can't get ahold of the land owner Call your insurance file a claim using the quotes you already have (let them go after the landowner) then get a few quotes on just having the paint work done. (You may have to explain to your insurance company how much your car means to you and that you are unwilling to let it get totalled out). Then call around local Junk Yards and procure the parts used (verycheap option). Take them to the paint shop get the paint done then install the parts yourself. You may have to come out of pocket up front but your insurnace or theirs will pay you back when they see the repairs made (I had to do this when I got rear ended in my blazer but I repaired a quoted $1500 in damage for $250 and pocketed the difference).
I just really don't want to see you have to give up a car you enjoy.

Re: My car got hit by a Tree...
Im gonna do what I can... I know how to make this a cheep and "easy" fix I know the owner of our local junk yard who would probably be more than happy to give me a good deal on parts. What a better reason for that cowl hood that Ive always wanted!? and I did want to upgrade my ground fx to the 1992 models. at the junk yard I think parts would be about $80-$100. and a Macco paint job. thats what im trying to talk everyone into.
thanks for the replys again guys.
