the dream
so i was first introdueced to the third gen camaro at the age of 13. my family had always been a ford family and i had ridden in many mustangs. a friend of mines older brother had recently baught a late 80's IROC Z. Ever since then i was deeply in love with the camaro. My best friend remembers back in freshmen year for my secret santa wish i put IROC, furthermore, anytime anyone asked me what i wanted from anywhere i sputed the same smartA$$ answer. That was almost 7 years ago. A year ago i ran into my first thirdgen, a 1992 Camaro RS. Wasnt exactly what i wanted, but at that point i was willing to grab whatever i could. The RS was the 5.0 TBI, and i knew i didnt want to mess with modding it or building it. Strictly a Daily Driver. So i was perusing Craigslist a while back and found my dream car, granted it was mistreated, and maybe not the best dream it was exactly what i wanted. An 87 IROC w/ TTops. And even more of a delight, it was in horrible condition. So i went and had a look, made an offer that was 40% of his asking price, and towed it home. Ive been working at if when i can for the last couple fo weeks and have gotten it from straigh dead, to almost starting . And here are the Pics as it sits today
as you can see from the pictures, the body is actually pretty straight, the paint is in horrid condition, but the body dosnt need any major repairs. also you can see that somewhere in its life it got the high rise spoiled, which i like, so its staying. The interior is actually in great shape, except for the seats. After i got some kick panels from the junkyars and did a couple hours of vacuming and detailing the interior looks pretty close to new.
Im planning on building the car to take corners, not for the 1/4 mile. i wanna paint it dark grey with black rally stripes, i dont know what rims i want, but i know i wanna raise the rear one inch, and lower the front one inch. mybe just lower the front and stagger the wheels. any suggestions, what is the bet way to build my car for taking corners and handeling really well.

Re: the dream
i think you stole my dream haha.
anyways i would think to make a good cornering car. the car should be lowered front and back the same. keep the car level with the road. thats what i think anyways. i could be wrong.
you can lower it 2" it looks really nice lowered.
im not good in the cornering department.
im glad you got a Camaro finnaly after all this waiting :P

Re: the dream
Lower it evenly all the way around. I went for the staggered tire size that gave it a mean rake but it made me plow into the corners (understeer). Spohn has some great parts and advice for cornering but first upgrade your brakes. Congrats on your IROC.

Re: the dream
yea i hadnt thought about the staggered wheels effing up the corners, but it makes way too much sence for me to argue with. ill lower it 2 inches to give it a lower center of gravity. hopefully i can find some decent rim/tires cheap...cornering tires r expensive *cry* but, ive seen way to many of these at the dragstrip and not nearly enough of them on road courses, though i did see a guy win the nopi drift in a 3rd gen.
you think i need to upgrade the brakes? it has disks all the way around, what brakes should i put on it? like crossed/drilled rotors? or r we talking different calipers? or both? lol.

Re: the dream
actually, its a Lb9, which i like, i dont know why, i just prefer the 5.0 over the 5.7, it just feels better to me. somewhere along the line in this cars life someone put the 91-92 gfx on it, along with the high rise spoiler, i dont mind, because those are all upgrades in my opinion. im not really going to mod the motor too much, im pretty satisfied with it as it is. i will put a bigger cam in it, and exhaust and whatnot, but nothing major. like i said, i want the car to be able to take corners more than i want it to be super fast. i figure if i can get it to do low 14's, high 13's, ill be content with the power. I am going to keep the A/C in it, probably go with a 5 speed, it has a 10 bolt, but am liing up a nine bolt for it. i am going to do as much weight reduction as i can w/o sacrificing how comforatable the car is. Any after market part that is lighter than the stock part is going to go on. and ill probably go with a 17" rim, and 2" lowering springs. A friend of mine has some Koni's he wants to sell me and i can prolyl get em pretty cheap. im kinda rambling, and i gotta be at work in like 4 hours, so its time for bed.

Re: the dream
It actually looks really good, yea the paint sucks but the body looks straight. but you can always sand that crap off. if you wanna lower it get some eibach's! lol. i just bought a set they are a one inch drop (pro kit) or you can get the sport line ones (the red ones) theyre like 2 or more inch drop. so your gonna turn this into a drifter? lol well i hope you have a 5 spd in there.

Re: the dream
i have a 5 speed swap planned out. i dont really want it to drift, i want it to hug the road and respond quickly to everything i tell it to do. i dont want to hit a corner and have the tires in the back bust loose and have a ton of smaoke and crap, i want to ghit that corner, have the whells turned and drive through with very little tire squeaking. i am going with the 2 in' drop eibach springs, and probably jsut get the stock 16 inch iroc wheels.
the Body is really really straight, there is on small blemish on the passenger side door, but it will be an easy fix.
also, i was working on the car last night, and discovered like 7 huge Black Widows. so any work is postponed until i can get some spider killer and some bug bombs.

Re: the dream
the Camaro camaro camaro front seats are trashed, the rear seats are in excellent shape though. also, the car was blue from the factory so the seats r black and blue, and the car is red. i wish they were in better shape because i really like the seats, but i am going to hafto have them redone, so im going to go with black vinyl, with red camaro camaro camaro emboridered like they are. ill post pics when i get them done, but shouldnt be for a couple months. car should be on the road this weekend

Re: the dream
congrats on your dream bro! make it good. as for cornering, evenly lowered. a stiffer suspension will handle better. rims are your preference but if you go too big, you're gunna be hitting the wells on every turn. as for the 5.0, i'd lose it and go with a 350. u can get a 305 fairly hot but for the same amount of effort, get a 350 even hotter. sorry but they just have way more potential. well good luck and see u on the streets!

Re: the dream
im not looking for anythign with Too much Power. and liek i said ill probably go with the 16 inch iroc wheels. I have decided to do a 2 inch drop all the way around. i dont have it in me to do a motor swap right now, and if i was going to id go with an LT1 or an LS1, and ditch the TPI all together, but until an affordable setup like that comes along, im gunna have to pass. right now im just making it into somethign i can have fun with, and not worry about having 400 horsepower.

Nice car and a great story............
As you can see from my sig my car also needs LOTS of work.
Playing with 'em is half the fun anyway.
