Fall Pictures of my '87 IROC-Z

If you missed my other thread, I took some similiar shots of the '83 the other day. Found here - https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/memb...s-my-83-a.html

Wish I had got these with my chrome wheels on, but time was not on my side. Oh well.

Enjoy...again.

Very nice car, nothing beats a red IROC.

Man, those bumper covers look better than new. Beautiful paint job even in the flat light of the cloudy day. I prefer the original look of the IROC wheels, super shiny chrome ones just don't look right to me on an IROC, but that's just my opinion.

Re: Fall Pictures of my '87 IROC-Z

Another sad day...took the '83 and '95 over on Sunday, and today took the '87 and my "garage queen" (2008 Escape thats done about 500 miles in the past 3 years). Don't ask about that one...there's a method to my madness there.

I like the guy with the Mustang with what looks like a car cover 3 sizes too small.

Re: Fall Pictures of my '87 IROC-Z

I'm gonna go ahead and ask about the Escape anyway...what's the point of having a run of the mill SUV as a summer car garage queen? That's the epitome of daily driver...?

Oh I know, I'm not making it out to be anything special...but I like seeing people's reactions when I tell them my Escape is a bigger garage queen than the Camaros.

The real reason though, is that I already have an decent low mileage daily driver, so I see no reason to rack up miles on two cars (not including the Camaros obviously, more the merrier there!!). When my current DD gets tired or breaks down, instead of having to buy something else, I'll pull out my practically brand new, fully paid off Escape. It doesn't make complete sense, but it works for me!

Re: Fall Pictures of my '87 IROC-Z

That s a beautiful car. The only question I have is ,are the front parking/turn signal lights tinted or original ? If those are original and have a slight fog you might consider a set of these, there one of the best things I did to finish off the front of my Camaro. = http://www.1aauto.com/1A/HeadLights/...PP00008/271776

Re: Fall Pictures of my '87 IROC-Z

Those marker lights on his car are the stock ones. The aftermarket ones shown are "too clear" in my opinion, and dont look like they fit right in the bumper.

Spd-Kilz,

I want to know if your place of employment is hiring. Id love to have 5 cars that look like yours.

Re: Fall Pictures of my '87 IROC-Z

Thanks for the kind words about the car.

The lights are completely original, and showing some age so they're already on the "to-replace" list. I might first try one of those headlight refinishing kits first though, lots of buddies have had success with them.

Speaking of replacing stuff, I'm trying to decide which of the following I want to do in the spring.

1 - Complete Replacement of Weatherstripping
2 - Complete Overhaul of front suspension (replace everything with tubular stuff/poly bushing, new springs/shocks, pretty much every single piece that can be replaced I'd change)
3 - Respray the front bumper and install NOS grille, foglights, and emblem (spiderweb cracking under the emblem in the shape of a smile, lol).

I've also been talking about upgrading to a crate engine and trans for 2 years now, but I have yet to pull the trigger. Have everything priced out and bookmarked, it's just a matter of going for it. One day....once I build up the suspension/chassis and brakes first though.

Re: Fall Pictures of my '87 IROC-Z

A complete overhaul of the front end seems to be the one I would do first. Unless of course your weatherstripping is leaking. On another note, and I am not trying to change the topic of this thread but since our choices are limited when it comes to parking lights and IMO play a huge part in the over all look of the car especially with new paint, I would like to offer this link showing them installed.(I have fixed the hood gap on the front of the car). = https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/afte...r-parking.html

Your paint in this picture looks unreal. The hood almost looks like the maroon metallic that came on some Irocs like mine lol. Hopefully when I get it painted (some day) it will turn out atleast somewhat close to what you have on yours.

Wow, just looked at your installed pics and they (and the car) look fantastic...that's how I want mine to come out after I get the front sprayed.

Hah, to be honest, this picture has some Photoshop action going on...but my hood is the best part of the car. I had it resprayed this spring as it had a nice baseball sized dent in it along with some scratches. The guys at my local GM Dealership did a really good job.

Re: Fall Pictures of my '87 IROC-Z

A bit of an update, has nothing to do with the car. Hot Wheels' 2012 list of new cars includes a Bright Red IROC-Z Camaro. I managed to scoop one up and just got it today. Pretty much identical to my car, same sticker placement, same black interior, chrome wheels (not shown in my pictures but I run chrome American Racing IROC replicas)...how could I NOT buy one? . First photo is the official Hot Wheels photo, second is my crappy iPhone pic. All you Bright Red guys...check out your local toy stores.

Thanks for the kind words. She doesn't look as great in person, but she's come a long way. I wish I had the "before" pics, the car was pink (oxidation) when I got it.

Little bit of an update; I'm in the process of working out a deal on ANOTHER Thirdgen. It's a 1986 Coupe with about 35,000 miles on it. The price is right; I just need to figure out how to get it home.
