Thirdgen Walleye fishermen Needed

Just wondering if any of you in the Northern Midwestern States could point me to a decent place to do some Walleye fishing in the spring of 2005.

Any State will work, ( Ohio, Michigan Minnesota or Wisconsin ) My 13 year old son is an avid fisherman & I took him to Canada last year and the Walleye's were extremely scarce.

I'd really appreciate it if someone could coud give me a helping hand in locating a quality place to go.

Thanks in Advance, Bruce

you talking UP or LP michigan? also i can find a few spots for you in WI as well...

few Q's....
you own a boat? hull size, motor size?
how far you willing to travel and would you pay for a guide service instead or would you like general areas?

Bruce-
I travel to Ohio quite a bit for work- right near the bottom of lake Erie- a little town called Gypsum, Ohio. The adjacent town, Port Clinton, OH is known for its excellent walleye fishing.
I am not familiar with any charter captains or anything, but I'm sure with a little research you could find something to keep your son happy. That area is known for good fishing- particularly walleye. Not very handsom fish, but good fighters and good tasting.
My buddy just went up to Door County, WI last weekend. They fish all night out on lake Michigan. Very rough water, and cold, but the fish were biting.

Best-

Thank's for the responses Guys, "I'm working nights this week so bear with me"

xpndbl3,

Sorry, but I can't accept your offer to swap, I have too much invested in the Iroc & I hope someday to complete it.

As far as your questions go. I really don't mind driving anywhere in the States so the Michigan UP would be fine. I would just really like to avoid going to Canada.

As far as a boat goes I don't have one, but I would like to be able to rent one where ever I end up going.

I also don't mind paying to have someone guide me , however I'd prefer just a single day guided trip & the rest of the time rent a boat & go on my own (if possble).

swerve-driver,

I've done some reading up on Ohio walleye fishing on Lake Erie and it seems as the fishing is as good as it gets, But I'm really trying to locate a spot that hopefully would be on a smaller body of water than lake Erie.

I have some cousins in the Griffith Indiana Area that have a boat on Lake Michigan & they troll for Coho Salmon and that kind of water is just too much for a pond paddler like myself ! "but to find walleye I may end up there" .

Basically, I'm open to pretty much open to anything at the present time so keep the ideas or options coming !!!

Thanks A Million Fellas,

:hail: :hail:

there's a few guys that run charters in WI off of www.chitownangler.com i would definately register to that site and check them out. they can point you in the right direction, salmon, steelies, bass, whatever you're looking for. Remember if you get a guide service at least for the first day on a lake you'll know what works and what doesn't so that you can fish other days on the same lake with hopefully the same results and typically is well worth it. When spring rolls around let me know and i'll try to help you out on what has been hitting lately around the tri-state areas.

as for your backhalved car, i would love to see some pics of it.

The lake Winnebago chain in Wisconsin is basicly a Walleye factory. With a number of excellent hatches over the past decade, this system will continue to produce great Walleye fishing for years to come..

Unfortunately, walleye population has fallen off drastically in recent years, at least in and around the areas I fish. Used to always get my limit, and regularly catch 8 pounders, and once in a while a "ten", but not anymore. I mainly fish in the St. Clair river with down riggers (25-40 ft. depths) up around Port Huron in the spring and early summer months. This year was especially bad, possibly due to the late spring warm-up and mild summer weather. Hopefully, next year will be better.

mike,
this year was bad all around. i'm still waiting on my new buffalo, MI walleye to come in. normally i'm catching them off shore well before thanksgiving, this year no one is catching anything. fishing the big pond launching out of chicago this year hasn't netted me much in the way of perch, walleye, or for that matter salmon during their run. not sure if it's the goofy weather or pattern or what, but fishing wasn't what it used to be. or maybe it's a sign of getting older and thinking of the way things used to be.

Yea, I hate it when I start to sound like a grumpy old fart. I just hope nobody starts a thread about how their deer season went...

ok, good walleye fishing? do a yahoo search for walker MN, which is on leech lake (a good fishing lake); now go between 1 mile and 50 miles and you will find TONS of fishing...the best for walleye is supposed to be on ten mile lake (just south of walker). anyway they don't call MN "land of 10,000 lakes" for nothing.

Hey, Thank You all for the very helpful replys. Just goes to show the Quality of people that reside here @ TGO !!!

" PhantomFE3 " ,

I really appreciate the help & the offer with your uncle. I just might be getting ahold of you so I can get in touch with him. THANKS a Million

" xpndbl3 "

I'm still in the process of back halving the car, stretching the rear wheel openings & installing the 8 pt, roll bar. I've been taking pictures as It progresses & soon (hopefully) I'll get my own web page started.
I'm still collecting parts as we speak "as we all now how high they are", but I am getting closer.

Also my funds are a little on the shy side with 2 kids in braces & one of them that will have a drivers license next year "plus she also thinks I should buy her a car".

My biggest problem at the present time is that the guy that is doing most of my welding & helping me fabricate, Broke his ankle really bad and will be unable to help me for a few months ( a keg of Beer fell & crushed his ankle ) Really, He delivers beer for a local Budweiser distributor.

Again Guys Thanks for all of the tips & rest assured I'll check all of them out.
