New cam going in tomorow along with new heads
I have a list of things I need. Anyone care to add or recomend what things I pick-up tomorow? BTW, not in a hurry so if it doesn't get done tomorow I won't be upset too much.
Cam assembly lube
Gaskets (I have everything but gaskets for the headers......)
RTV
Thread Sealant
Thread locker or Tape (thread locker blue too strong?)
New head bolts and header bolts....not going ARP, or stage 8. Just regular stuff, napa should have it.

I'm cheap......so stocker stuff.....
Would be nice, but can't afford it right now.
BTW, anyone care to tell me what they are using for header bolts? I kept the manifold bolts so I could know what thread pitch I needed, but they are too long and no-one sells a kit. And there is no way in hell I'd re-use them IF they were the correct length!!
Camshaft is installed, heads are going on tomorow with new valve stem seals. Its a LT4 valve train, and I have positive seals...whatever that means. LoL. I have the valve spring compressor tool.
And, the most important on my mind right now.......WHERE CAN I GET A CAMSHAFT DEGREE WHEEL? I want to make sure i get this cam degreed correctly, as it is now, both the cam button and the dot on the crank are facing 12:00 as near as i can tell. But I want to be absolutely sure its done right!
Oh yeah, and pictures tomorow. We may destroy the old camshaft somehow, I'm not sure, just that I want to tear that TBI peice of crap to bits!!!!!

lol....pep boys or autozone will have header bolts for a SBC in their ***** "old skool" parts aisle IIRC they're 3/8 bolts with a 7/16 head or something like that. not exactly sure. might be 7/16 bolts with 3/8" head. anyways....i usually put the cams in with the dots facing each other, one at 6 o'clock and one at 12 o'clock. that is TDC on number 6 cylinder. Then just rotate around the engine anyways to adjust valve lash and you're good to go.

Camshaft is in, and we finished torqing down the heads. Harmonic balancer is being a bit of a bastard though. I just can't get the damn thing to slide easily down the snout, even with the rented installer tool. I think its either off center a little, or maybe just tight.

Tried that, oh well. Got it on enough that it could be tighened up with the original balancer bolt. Worked great.
