Problems with my sisters car (99' Kia Sephia)
Recently I started driving this car for a while because my sister went on vacation and my mom wanted me to drive it and see what was going on with it.
Well, last night the car sputtered and hesitaed for a second or two, but didn't show any odd behaviour after that. Knowing that it was leaking I used some simple green on the cam cover to get most of the dirt and grime off the car. I was careful to make sure none of it got on anything electrical. And when I rinsted it I didn't use a torrent of water. Just enough to get the grime off with a rag.
However, tonight while driving it it developed a SERIOUS hesitation that is proceding to get worse, and worse. The car really feels like its dropping a cylinder.
I've done a bit of research (no way to check codes right now though), and I've discovered that this motor has a Cam position sensor, crank position sensor, as well as a camshaft interruptor magnet.
The motor also appears to be a DIS type system. Does anyone know of a way to check codes with these cars as we do our F-bodies? Or must I get a snap-on scanner on there. The car is OBD-2, and my mom wants me to take it to a shop and have them scan a code.
WTF, most shops I've been to want $50 JUST to hook the damn thing up to a hand-held snap-on scanner! Thats a freaking rip off. I know that Joe has a snap-on scanner and I'll probably make use of it tomorow night.

Damnit burnout, that is NOT what I want to hear!!!! LoL, that part is EXPENSIVE.
Its as an expensive as an Opti for an LT1, and essentially the same part.

It does have a warrenty on it. And those damn boots are still letting moisture in there.
I'll just take it to the dealer and call it quits. It ain't my car, its not my responsibility to take care of crap like this.

Hmmm....found JUST as much moisture in #4 as I you did on #1 last night joe. Damn, this thing is sucking up the moisture like crazy. Oh well. Its drying out right now with a VERY bright light. Hopefully that'll evaporate what moisture is in there, so I can find the cause of the problem, and not its symptoms.
I also found the bolt thats leaking oil on the valve cover too! Yay. Damn oil leak drove me nuts. Glad I cleaned the cover with some simple green a while ago.
