What do we have to do to get people to participate?

What do we have to do to get people to participate?

What is the problem here?

We end up with the same handful of people time after time.

Even Thirdgen Fest was on the low side of attendance this year.

As was the Track Rental?

Work and faimly emergency stuff is always excused, sometimes stuff actually does happen.

My car was dirty or I would have had to drive my beater doesnt t fly with me, it wouldnt stop me from coming in the Mighty Mighty Saturn :-) (with oil slick behind it)

Why dont people come out more? All the major events were planned with a minimum of 2 mths notice or so, so scheduling things out shouldnt be a problem......

Anyone have a good reason that people dont show up?

Or an idea to make people actually show up?

I'm curious.

A lot of people put time and effort into things and why should they continue to do them if they never get any help from anyone?

This includes people 10 deep in line waiting for food to materialize off of a grill without asking if someone needs some help....

Or taking the last beverage and not bothering to put in more from the case that is sitting directly next to the barrel full of ice.

Just curious
Jeremy

It does get kinda old when no one shows. I mean it would be easier for us to call the regulars and set something up rather than posting it.

There are a few people who frequent the board that always say they are up for what we plan, but i have yet to see them at a gathering. That is what annoys me, people who say they will show and then never do. Esp when the same people do it over and over again.

This is why we talked about a car club, get a solid base and go from there.

Could have still come to the rental and hung out and met some folks.

Lets see.

I know people cant complain about where things are, we do stuff from NW IN thru to Schaumburg area, so that about covers everyone.

I dont want this to be a pissing match, I'm looking for honest answers, how about the people who never show up for anything?

Why dont you?

Need something to go on here?

The roll call is over 100 people, last time I went thru and figured it out, rougly 60% come here on at least a monthly basis.

So where are all the other people at?

I have an insane work schedule. Work 80 hours one week then get the next week off. Usually, things get planned on my working week. The weeks I'm off are usually devoted to family and catching up on housework from the previous week. I was really wanting to come to the rental on the 11th. Then it was rescheduled to the day of my family gathering. As for the fest, I personnally, couldn't justify spending that much cash to look at a car show for an hour or so. My car isn't show material anyway, so I surely wouldn't bother entering it. As for a cruise? I love a good cruise. All it costs is gas and eats. I just live too far away from Lombard or any other IL. towns that have good cruises. My fuel is $4 a gallon, so I don't go much more than 30 miles away at a time if I don't have to. Sorry to ramble on. I use these boards as a valuable source of information. Anway, here it is in a nutshell--I would like to attend a gathering, but there is not a whole lot that happens near enough to me on my days off. I would be willing to go out to Valpo for their little cruise, or to Crown Point, Hobart, Schererville, and maybe even Dyer. Highland and Hammond are a possibility too, although I can't go much farther with the 4:56 gear.

I tried the most I could this summer, but as you know jeremy my car has little green men living in the motor. also I paid for all the events even though my car never got running for any of them so you do have my support for a local club. unfortunetly my summer is over now and it is back to iowa so that puts me out for another 9 months.

My first thought is distance for some of the events. That is the bad part about being a part of "Chicagoland." Basicly, it covers NW Indiana (which covers quite a bit) as well as Chicago and the "collar counties."

Sure, jobs, family, school, and other crap can get in the way of having some fun with other ThirdGen owners. Heck, I know I wish I can get back a few hours of time myself. At the same time, even some quick weekend gatherings at some of these local car shows would still be a good time. Even if your car is not of "show quality" I say its still a good idea. (Mine is a 15-foot car at best.) Hey, even seeing one other ThirdGen owner and talking to them about their ride can still make it worthwhile.

Well, all I know is that once I finally get some new plates on my ride, I am going to go around to different gatherings and the like, even if it isn't ThirdGen related and even if my car is the worst one around.

I don't think any of this was directed towards you Thanks for serving

I've been to a few of the meetings. Went to the track rental, blew my car up, and had someone that I didn't even know tow my car an hour and a half away to my house. Talk about good people on these boards.

Don't think I'll be making Volo though. Don't know if my car will be running well enough then yet, so I'll probably be hitching a ride with Tim wherever he decides to go.

I've been busy this summer with work and the g/f but I've still tried to make it to a few things. Hell even earlier this year when we had meetings at a few people's houses and stuff, I took time out of prior commitments on that day to at least stop by. I think more people are able to do that as well.

Maybe some of you guys that say things are too far away should try to plan an event closer to where you guys are? I planned the winter/X-mas dinner at Friday's which turned out to be pretty cool even though there were some problems with the bill from what I understand.

Married, with three kids, ages range from 2 to 18 years, and a full time job keeps me quite busy. I have about three hours, on Saturday, that I spend working to complete my car.

When I finish ( maybe an oxy- moron, are we ever really finished?) I am looking forward to getting together and hanging out for at least the time that I have been using to work on it.

we used to go to everything that was planned but we stopped going to some things because the participation is always so poor. some of us drive really far for these meetings and when it turns out the way most of them do then its not really worth it. usually the ppl that show up are the sames ones that we hang with outside of meetings so why go through all the trouble of putting a meet together if nobody else ever shows?? I would really like to start doing things as a group again (like it was when we first started) but we have to stop being so unreliable to get ppl interested again........

My NASA track day was the same day as the board's or I would've been there. My money was there anyway. Haha

I screwed up on TGFest, went out drinking the night before (I think...) and didn't wake up until 2pm. Didn't feel like spending $50 and driving 1+ hour to be there for a couple hours without a 3rd gen.

Made it to the meet at Bill's earlier this year, but that's been about it

There's a good 5 or 6 of us that live within like 15 minutes of each other in the NW 'burbs, though in about 3 weeks that'll be one less when I shove off to school I guess Bloomingdale is kind of in the middle of us, as Tim and I both live there with a few guys north of us and a few guys south of us.

hey Duron, are they on this board? cause i am all about hanging out on the week ends, or taking over my house when my parents allow me to(i am in college so i know the feeling, i just live at home, cheaper) plus the only other thirdgenner i hang out with on a daily basis is red91camaro(who is never on here anymore), so let me know, and maybe we can all meet up before you go off to school for a nw chicago/burbs bbq at a local forest preserve...like Busse or something

Haven't been around here lately, but nothings changed, wife hates computers, so I'd have a real hard time trying to explain taht I'm going out with a group of people I don't really know from on-line. She'd think I'm joing a vodoo cult or something.

Otherwise, I work days, she works nights, 2 kids, a house 2/3 of the way reconstructed, cars falling apart or ongoing projects. So I am always at one of two places, work or home. Only time we actually made it out this summer was for fireworks

My only excuse is I need to get the car up and running again...need to finish off a few things first....get the headers in, design and install the new exhaust, and then button up some misc things and get a chip burned so the car runs.....
Anyone know of a *good* welder? How about a good tuner/burner? I've got all the equipment I'll pay for their time and feed them.
Seriously though....when the car's up and running again (after 4.5 long years) I will so be alot of these gatherings! Can't wait!

I wish I was closer. I made it up to the track rental and loved every minute of it. There isnt any 3rd gen loyal people left around here. I know I took my 4th gen up to the rental but thats just because my 3rd gen project was apart at the time. If I wasnt 3 hours away Id be a very active member. Im hopeing to make it to the MFBA meet and maybe thirdgen fest next summer. Just thought Id pipe up.

That's it right there for me (only it's 10 years in my case). I went to TG fest w/o my car and it just wasn't the same. That's why I wasn't at the track day. I like to participate, not spectate.

It is my own fault that the car isn't done, especially considering how close to done it is. Quite honestly, I haven't been working on it because it's been so hot in the garage. That and the fact that It's boring working in the garage by myself and my friends have been busy with their own projects this summer.

In November, baby #2 comes along and then I'll really have no time (or money). The plan is to thrash in Sept/Oct when it's cooler and before the baby comes... So come over and help.

So come over and help.
i'm down for helping........pm me

I have to say I have wanted to make some of the gatherings but havent yet. But I also have an on-again-off-again schedule. I have to plan day by day which makes it hard for me to say "I'll be there" with any certainty.

My other feedback would be that I have met some people thru this board that seem to be rather standoffish to newbies when they come around. (duely noted: most people in this posting are probally cool or they wouldnt have genuine interest in getting a larger gathering.)

But, I dont care for people to treat me like I'm not welcome because I am less knowledgable than they may be. Especially when I do not do automotive repair as my line of work or have countless hours to spend learning all I can about these cars.

I think maybe people need to be more open minded and a little more friendly????...............

I also would TRY to make the next gathering. I want to get around some good people.
I applaude the people that put the time and effort into coordinating these events.

Actually, I was only kidding, but I might take you up on it. I've got a couple house projects I have to finish before getting back to the car. Thanks for offering to help. I'll let you know when I get my Firebird mojo back.
