Why did I do this at the beginning of spring?

Got the auto trans out tonight along with the console removed stock auto shifter and kick panel. Had to cut the exhaust since hitting with a BFH didnt do anything, spohn guy said my spohn adjustable torque arm will work I still don't see how? If the torque arm doesnt work I'll have to try and find a stock t56 mounting bracket to use my factory stamped one. Also noticed a hole from some object in my drivers side floor pan, not sure what the hell it could have been?

My mess of tonight, everything was disconnected just got hung up on something and started pouring out.

Hell, if that's the only problem you've had so far, you're doing great. Besides, at least ATF doesn't reek like gear lube.

Re: Why did I do this at the beginning of spring?

Dave, after you lay out where the hole you're cutting will be, drill the 4 corners before you start cutting with the cutoff wheel or grinder. This will reduce the likely hood it will crack/tear at the corners.

My first car with no SFCs started to have that problem because I just buzzed it with the wheel.

Run GM or Pennzoil SyncroMesh in that trans, Dave....its TONS better than the Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF I was running before.

Also, when you find out about that torque arm, let me know if you need a stock T-56 bracket, I just might have mine laying around...not sure though.

Re: Why did I do this at the beginning of spring?

got the flywheel back from being resurfaced cleaned the rest of the trans fluid off the floor, installed said flywheel, clutch and pressure plate, removed old auto cooling lines and got more fluid on the floor. Tried to install the t56 and god damn its a heavy trans the T-5 I briefly had was a lot less than the 6 speed, need to go out and get a trans jack since it fell of the 2 jacks twice before I gave up. Didnt cut the hole out but measured the shifter opening to 20-27 inches the 20 being right on the 2 factory dimples on the trans tunnel so I just need to cut 7inch back from there. So we'll see hopefully know someone I can borrow a jack from, or I'll prob have to buy one.

Re: Why did I do this at the beginning of spring?

I usually lift the trans up until I can get underneath it and put it on my chest, then move it into place. With that said, I have a T5, so YMMV. The easiest way is to get a buddy to help you. Even if they aren't a gearhead, you just need them for the muscle anyway

The trans should slide into place, if it doesn't want to go, have it in gear and rotate the driveshaft until it catches and goes all the way in. DO NOT DRAW THE TRANS IN WITH THE BELL HOUSING BOLTS.

Good luck dude, it sounds like you're moving along so far.

Re: Why did I do this at the beginning of spring?

almost done, went through the gears on the jackstands seams like its fine. Only things are I have to make sure the speedo works so I'll have to follow someone, and some peope have had problems with the 3rd gen pedals with the t-56 might have to get a set from a 4th gen.

new hydraulics

still a mess, B&M shifter is very nice

the shifter plate the cost me $142 bucks, I had to cut the holes for the power windows and mirrors, nervous to say the least also got the 6 speed shift pattern insert

Re: Why did I do this at the beginning of spring?

Looks good, Dave! Wait until you get some HP under the hood and you'll really feel like it's a rocket ship.

My car went to the dyno last weekend. 311RWHP and 317RWTQ and it's not even broken in yet. Feels like a rocket ship.

Not bad for a little 305 with unported 'vette AL heads, Performer RPM intake and a Holley 600 carb.

Going racing this weekend. I'll write it up when I get back.

not bad for a 305, personally im not going to bother with the LO3 going to get some kind of stroker motor eventually.
