traction issues

I have a 1991 Z28. We just put a LT1/auto in the car. Also have 3.73's. Air intake, exhaust, stage 2 fast chip etc. I've tried launching the car a few times. Brake torqing is not going to happen. The car breaks loose and spins like crazy. Launching from idle spins but not as bad as I thought it would. It definately pulls harder from idle, front end jumps right up! I was thinking of going to Nitto drag radials but am worried about blowing the 7.5 rear end. should I be concerned, and how should I launch this car? I have firestone firehawks on the car right now. Thanks!

Factory rear longvity is kinda of a trick question when you start putting power to it and traction. Some guys frag them for no good reason and others like me have had pretty good luck so far-knock on wood. Second season racing with this factory rear, consistent 1.80 shorts, I'm not 100% confident with this rear as I'm just waiting for that time when it let's go, but so far so good.

Stiffening rear cover and welded tubes go a long way in helping them last. Any hint of wheel hop must be eliminated (poly bushings, boxed or tube LCAs).

I ran mid to low 11's on a modified 7.5". Solid rear cover with bearing cap supports. Solid crush sleeve. Welded tubes. Aftermarket 28 spline axles. 4.10 gears.

I was getting low 1.7x 60' times and ran it for about half a season. I switched to a 9" when I installed a transbrake.
