AeroDynamics

Does anyone know what year and what front clip [camero\firebird] has the least air drag, going to build and run at the new track in S.C. , called the Standing Mile.
Any Info would be helpfull

Your own personal preference to what you like.

Firebird are more aerodynamic than the Camaro because of the hideaway headlight design.

Frontal area on the Camaro are all the same except for cosmetic changes between models and years. I personally like the Z28 nose piece.

Unless you start getting over 150 mph in the 1/4 mile, you're not going to see much difference in aerodynamics between all the third gens.

230mph is close to what I'm aiming at, I've heard plexiglass inserts on the headlights help on the camero.
Still need info on coeffincent drag between the two models, has anyone tried bellypans?

Your not going to find any info on that type of racing in this forum. You might want to try hre.com Many of the racers on that forum also do the Bonneville racing.

Typical drag coefficient of a third gen is 0.33

The plexiglass inserts for a Camaro don't survive at high speed. That's why I don't have them on my car. They're only made for street use. Even in the 80's when ProStock used third gens, they didn't use the headlight covers on the Camaros. That's also why most of the ProStocks were using Firebirds. The aerodynamics were just a little bit better.

Actually, with headlight covers, the TA and Camaro are the same. But the TA due to the sealed front end - no radiator air inlets has more of a tendency to lift (more air get trapped under the hood) than the Camaro does. The underbody is the same. The rear of a Camro is probably slightly better, because the TA has a spoiler that protrudes farther up into the airstream than the lip spoiler on a Camaro.

You won't have a chance at running 230mph in the standing mile -even turbo hayabusas barely touch that speed - and they run 165+ in the quarter mile.

I forgot the website but it was something like "smokeemup" or "litemup" .com anywho, the camaro can go as fast as you have hp and torque to take it. I found w/ 700Hp and 750lbs of tq I could get a camaro (stock configuration of body) up to something like 180mph. I'll look for that website

One of the early firebird formulas with 0 options had the lowset coefficient drag of any car GM has ever built, it was a low .23.

Does anyone else remember reading this?

No. That was This.

There is also an entire Coefficiant Drag list for Third Gen's in our Tech Data: https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/techdb.shtml Basically they are the same with the Firebird being usually at least .2 Cd better while the Camaro's spoiler works better.
