New 1/8 time help!

Let me start by listing my engine and car my car # was 10X on the right side

1985 Z/28 355 I pulled and built out of a 1974 Z/28 T-Tops NO rust New Breaks/Lines, Weather Striping, New headliner, Good paint 66,000 miles
*New SBC 355, New Edelbrock 1406 Carb, New Richmond 373 gears
*New Summit Blueprinted HEI Distributor, Jet hot headers
*Flowmaster muffler, Magna high flow cat 3inch pipieing
*Fresh 700R4 Transgo Shift Kit Corvette servos

With that build I think it would run better the car is running beautifully only thing I can think of is I am using the stock heads. I rebuilt them but im thinking there smogers and bogging my engine down I have no idea what the casting number is on the heads. Also I put a cam in it it’s a "151" cam, used in the L79 in the mid 60s its was brand new when I put it in Any opinions to run faster?

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...art=SUM-152123 Any good would it make a big improvement?

Re: New 1/8 time help!

Please learn to type in sentences that whole "paragraph" makes very little sense. For the record my stock 305 was over a full second faster in the 1/8! You will deffinately need gears first of all. Secondly you dont know what heads and cam you put in there?? On a budget i would go with a ZZ4 pullout cam and some vortec heads and performer RPM intake.

Thank you for replying! If you’re so ignorant to make such a offensive post like that please keep your comments to your self. I do not mind constructive criticism also I do not need “my stock 305 was over a full second faster” like I stated in my post I understand that was not a good time thank you. Please if you have something Intelligent to say post it.

Re: New 1/8 time help!

get that 60ft DOWN!!!!!!! gears, stall and tires will help tremendously.. i would try tires first.. get a good hookup, then add gears and stall if it bogs down too hard.. which it probably will..

you should be able to get the 60ft's in the 1.8xx range.. what kind of gearing and tires you runnin?

EDIT: an 1/8 mile MPH would help see what its capable of.. my s-10 that ran 16.0's in the 1/4 would 60ft 2.4's and go through the 1/8th at 10.3 @ 68mph..

Poor heads, poor cam, poor carb. Poor runs.

A ZZ4 cam won't fit without hassles in a '74 block. So, don't go that route.

Comp XE268 - easy cam to recommmend, good power across the board.

I see 3.73 gears. As already asked, what tires? Posi?

Stock converter, I presume. Need more stall. At least 2000, 2500 would be better.

Your old 305 heads would be better than those Summit heads. The Summit pieces are old-school knock-offs; your 305 heads with basic porting, 1.94" intake valves, would walk away from them. Or, get the sdparts.com Vortec upgrade heads with RPM intake - About $1100 for everything you need for heads and intake (gaskets, rockers, bolts).

I know the Edelbrock carbs are popular for their supposed simplicity. A Holley 650 DP would help bring that 60' down (with traction, of course). ET and MPH would follow.

Tires street 60,000 miles tred BF good which I didnt do a good burn out didnt want to mess up my tires. I was looking on summit for the Cam can you please link it now should I replace head's and cam or just cam? What stall should I get link that for me too thank you! Re: New 1/8 time help!

Wow....10.9......wow.....What kind of trap speeds did you have? I could not see it in the slip.

You need a converter and good tires....badly. I think that will get you into the low 10's. You need to cut 2.0-2.1 60's at least.

As for your other stuff. It should be in the garbage can, not on your engine.

As suggested, get the vortec head upgrade with the valvespring upgrade along with the xe268.

And I have drove 3 cars with edelcrap carbs....every one of them were dogs.

Here is the cam.

I'm not ignorant, nor was my post offensive. I simply stated it was hard to read you're posts with the lack of grammar and punctuation it had. Then i gave you a comparason as to where you're car's ET's were on the scale. Then i answered you're question and gave you some advice.

Re: New 1/8 time help!

wheel spin and DEEEEEEEP(low number) gearing will do it to you.. that comment about my s-10 was with a tiny chirp off the line and a MEAN bog.. i would drop the clutch at about 2500, and it would chirp/jump and fall flat on its face..

vwdave, you must not have driven my car.. i used to have an edelcrap 800 carb on my 383(previous motor) and she ran with mid12 potential.. only had one semi good run with a missed 4th shift.. 12.7 @ 106.. 12.4's were capable.. and it was not tuned..

Re: New 1/8 time help!

Eld vs Holly I like Eld I think there the same really but I had my car dyno few months ago when I had 308 gears and 244 RWH 313 tq would the 373 change HP numbers? Vortec head upgrade I would also have to change out my Eld Air gap that would cost alot what would be the best heads keeping my intake?

Hey 19Kilo, you should go out to Holt this Friday night and work on that time. There should be a bunch of f-bodys there.

Depends on your budget. I would at least ditch the Edelbrock 1406 for a Holley Double pumper or Speed Demon, that will give you 2 tenths and 2 mph in the 1/4.

Spend a little more, for less than $1000 you could get a set of Vortec heads, XE274 camshaft, thinner head gaskets and a vortec intake manifold and run in the low 8.0's / high 7's in the 1/8th. This is the setup I had, I think my best 1/8 was 7.88 @ 88 mph.
