Timing gears?
I have a set of pete jackson timing gears but I heard a lot of bad things about them lately. Are they really bad and I should avoid them? What would you guys suggest for a timing chain? Its a custom ground compcams retrofit Hyd. roller cam.

Re: Timing gears?
I did a search on here, bot others told me it causes premature wear on the cam and valavetrain and will cause premature valve float?

I have no personal experience with gear drives but after all the strange stories why not stick with what is tried and true? You really can't go wrong with a "true roller" timing chain set. I've used the Summit brand one on a few builds and never had a problem. They're only like $32 too.

Thats why I am a little leary about it, I dont see too many people with them esp. in racing so I figured I would ask. I was going to get the Compcams magnum double roller timing set. I'm going to call Comp tomorrow to see what they suggest for the cam.

Re: Timing gears?
I had a set of noisy gears in my engine for one weekend then yanked them out and put a chain back in. Even in my race car they were too noisy.

I think I'm going to swap to a hex adjust when I put the cam in. Along with a 2pc Timing cover.
