Got my Nitto's and NOS!

Hey guys that time of year is coming upon us, time for the weather to get warm (had enough of this cold and snow crap) and the tracks to open. Last year i was running 9 flats spinning to the half track mark in the 1/8th mile. My local track has there first test and tune this saturday. I've done some work this winter. New mods include Spohn LCARB's (car lowered 2" rear 3" front) Spohn tubular LCA's, a NOS 05151 plate kit (currently set up with the 100 hp jets) a detroit Trutrac locker (the powertrax was beyond a piece of garbage) and a new set of Nitto 555r drag radials (the BFG g-Force sports are good for everyday street use but not so good for the track). I hope to get into the mid to high 8's on motor and low 8's on the bottle, that is hoping the traction gods are in my favor. Will post times this weekend, you guys think these times are feasable??

Good luck with the testing, if you hit mid 8s you might smash a 7 on the gas, just depends on how well it does on motor.

Re: Got my Nitto's and NOS!

I would have gone BFG drag radial over the nittos, they don't hook that well IMO. But maybe modulating that right foot would be an improvement, along with I didn't see you mention if you had a posi or not that would be an even bigger improvement.

Re: Got my Nitto's and NOS!

joe,i run them nittos and like em. word of adivce at the track.i was hesitant myself in fear of burning them down and didnt heat them up as much as i should have. these tires loveeeeeeeee heat so youl have to do a burnout to get them to stick like they can and when i say burnout i mean get the smoke billowing off them. once you let off youll feel them sticky almost like theres glue on em.just remember heat. burn em down

Re: Got my Nitto's and NOS!

Burn them and keep the pressure low at the track and they'll stick, keep the pressure high (mid 30's) on the street and you'll get some miles out of them. I ran consistent low 1.7's with them on my 6speed 4th gen, and got 22K miles out of them on the street, and I've seen automatic cars with more power running consistent low 1.6's high 1.5's. They're not as sticky as a slick, but they're MUCH better then other street tires.

Re: Got my Nitto's and NOS!

hey guys thanks for the input!! i like the tires so far, traction is a lot better on the street than with the bfg tires. dont get me wrong the bfgs are awesome for takin turns and when it rains but straight line traction (as with any other normal street tire) aint the best. yeah my 60 ft times last year were a horrible 2.1-2.3 bc i couldnt get it not to spin and was lettin off a lot. but with the suspension mods and these tires i think it will do a lot better.

Re: Got my Nitto's and NOS!

well the car did well all things considered. best et on motor-8.90@83mph best et on 100hp shot 8.30@92mph. not too bad considering the track wasnt prepped well and in was 55 degrees. my lowest 60ft time was 2.078 with an average of 2.1-2.2. everyone was having traction issues yesterday.

Re: Got my Nitto's and NOS!

just driving it out of the hole a little better will help immensely. you should be getting 1.8 60ft times on motor and low 1.7's on the 100 shot.

something to think about when leaving the tree is that the gas pedal isn't an on/off switch, think about quickly rolling into the throttle not just smashing the gas pedal to the floor
