Launching a stockish TPI 350 auto car?
What are you guys doing for a launch on a near stockish L98 auto car?
In my experience, Idle launch on street tires at 34psi get me low 2.0 sixties and I get decent times. With pressure dropped to 24, sixties fall into the 2.2-2.3 range. Same with raising the launch RPM to 800-1000, sixties suffer.
What is the sweet spot for you guys in launching these things?

Never tried on junk radials, but on slicks with a stock converter i launched on the footbrake, on a car with a aftermarket converter, flashing the stall is some times best, it is just teat and tune, do what works best fro you and gets the best result.

mine's a 305, but will do 2.0x on regular street radials
just put load it up enough to get the slack out of the drive line, and then quickly roll into the throttle

I cut a 1.9 with street radials just launching off idle. My trans is built (no stall converter) and i have a 3.23 rear with posi. I spin a little bit off the line but nothing to write home about.
Pretty simple, just mash and go.

Re: Launching a stockish TPI 350 auto car?
I have a pretty much stock (oem replacements are my only changes) 1991 Z-28 with the 5.7TPI. BFG G-Force tires. My launches I usually hold the footbrake, start to give it a little gas once the lights start to drop, once the bottom lights, let go of the brake and mash it.
Can't remember my 60' off the top of my head, but I ran a 14.01. I had a little spin off the line, so it's really about tweaking how hard you mash the throttle...
Also, if you're going to do this method, make sure you heat your tires up realllll good in before the run. I tried to do it without heating them up, just to see how bad I would spin, and ended up running like a 17.4ish.
SO, if you don't want to donate a good portion of your tires to the burnout patch of your local track, disregard everything I just said

Re: Launching a stockish TPI 350 auto car?
When the car was stock I used to do a quick burnout of no more then 1 to 2 seconds to get some heat in the tires and clean them off, then at the line I foot break it to 1500 RPM and let her go at the light. I all really depends on your track prep though.
Now a days I just bring the slicks
