Thoughts on my new combo
Ive been slowly collecting parts over the last year and half, and my new motor is finally coming together. looking for some comments about it, or what i might need to change before its all put together
396 Sbc, forged H beam eagle rods, forged eagle crank, forged Srp pistons, stock 2 bolt block with billet splayed caps installed, thinking about filling the block to the bottom of the water pump passages. The heads are Afr 210 eliminators with a 72cc chamber milled to a 70cc chamber, im not sure about the springs the machine shop is figuring that out for me. The cam is a comp Magnum
304 hr ground on a .900 base circle .600 lift .245@ .50 on a 110 lsa and comp retrofit hydraulic roller lifters, comp told me they would be good to 6800rpm but ill probably be shifting at 6500rpm. i went with a victor jr manifold and im not sure about the carb yet im looking at a holley 750hp but im not sure it will be big enough. the exhaust is hooker long tubes 1 3/4' primaries to a 3" collector then reduced to 2 1/2" through an x pipe and then 2 moroso spiral flow mufflers.Im also not sure if this exhaust will be big enough or if i should build a 3" system for it.
I got a free, almost brand new tci th400 with a reverse manual valve body and a T-brake. i dont have a converter yet so i need some help with that im i was looking at a 10" converter that is supposed to stall at 3800-4200 but i think that might be too high for me. So any advice or comments about my combo will be appreciated.

Re: Thoughts on my new combo
I would not run a tall filled block besides on the track, nothing to cool the oil. we try to push mine to the start and tow back after the run. I dont know what application your building it for but HR cams are for the street and trans brake manuals are not

Re: Thoughts on my new combo
yeah, this combo seems a bit mismatched.
i feel it needs something in the 800+cfm range for the carb. needs 3" duals, and an 8" converter with a stall speed of 5000ish rpm. talk to Justin (Fast383) on here about a converter. he gives good deals to tgo members!
i wouldn't fill the block unless it was a track only car.

Re: Thoughts on my new combo
how much can i fil the block without cooling problems, id like to strengthen the block as much as i can. Im probably going to build a new 3" exhaust for is once my school is finished up in a few weeks.Iknow its not the best trans for the street, and i dont plan on hooking up the t-brake but its there if i ever want to try it out and i really want to put a tko600 into it cause i know im going to miss shifting it but the trans is just sitting in my garage and i dont have the money for a new tremec right now, and if i go with a 5000 stall will i still be able to drive it on the street regularly.
also im hopeing to go high 10s do you think that will be possible

Re: Thoughts on my new combo
i have a 9" with 4.11s all aftermarket suspension, im definitely going to spray atleast a 150 shot, the rings are being gaped for it. i went all forged because i got a good deal on the rotating assembly, only paid 1000$ for everything brand new , and if i want to go to a 421 later i can reuse the crank and rods
