2nd place at SCCA Pro Solo

Finished second in ESP out of 12 at this weekend's SCCA Pro Solo at FedEx Field in Maryland. Lost by a whopping 27 thousandths of a second to my buddy Adam in "his" 4.6L Mustang. But beat my girlfriend in her Subaru WRX. By 11 thousandths of a second. Competition was pretty close as five of us qualified for the Super Challenge, but none of us made it past the second round.

I had a Watts Link put on last month and went back to 17X11s with 315 Hoosiers for the first time since 2012. The car felt great, but it still may need a few tweaks.

Anyway, for your viewing enjoyment, here's the YouTube link to my fastest runs Saturday afternoon:

The first run from the right course was just 25 thousandths slower than what I ran on Sunday. The next run on the left course stood as my fastest run on that side for the weekend.

Hopefully I can make it to the Pro Solos in Toledo and Wilmington in June/July.

Pat

P.S. I can't figure out how to embed YouTube videos in posts. Never mind, it looks like it magically appears but doesn't look that way when trying to preview the post.

Awesome runs man! I was invited to run with the ESP guys at the El Toro Pro and had a pretty good time, although I was highly noncompetitive on street tires. Your girlfriend was driving Greg's WRX at the time; fast as hell.

A few photos from last weekend:

Just about every Camaro I've done a Pro Solo in has problems staging. For 10+ years I just dealt with it until last year exploiting the rules to put a "flapper" on the front. No more staging issues!

Taking off on the right-side course -- it really is uphill! Uphill, sealed asphalt, trying to cut .500 reaction times while holding the e-brake.

Me on the left talking with Paul Kozlak in impound on Sunday trying to convince him to chop up "the wife's car" and run ESP. The wife's car is a genuine '89 1LE that has a few F-Stock national championships.

How far past the fenders do your wheels stick out, Pat?

Not much. Maybe an inch or so? Fronts I think are pretty much even with the fenders. These are 17X11 CCWs from a fourth gen and 2" bolt-on spacers all around. Fronts also have a 1/4" spacer because the rims rub the tie rods otherwise.

The wheel upfront looks like it tucks nicely under load; does the rear ever kiss the fender lip?

AFAIK, the tires don't touch anything except the body in the rear just above the control arms. And that is just barely -- the inner shoulder of the tire looks like it's been polished.
