Great Race but need suspension/tire advice

Well I made a bunch of progress on the car this last weekend. Finished up the N20 system and got a couple of solid tunes ready for the car. Car made 396 hp and 404 tq on motor(we are at 6000ft) and woke up on the bottle. on a 150 kit it made 616 hp and 654 tq.

After the Dyno session I made my way over to the annual All Out Call Out Event (http://www.alloutcallout.com/ for details). I had no idea what the car would run, but based off of 2 years ago I decided to run the big boy class(11.50-12.80) In testing the car went a little slower on motor at a 12.61 at 111 and on the bottle went 11.51 at 127. The car blows the tires off at the line in every situation. Best 60 was a 1.82 all night pedaling. Out of a field of 28 cars I made it to the final and ran an 11.51 at 100 mph dumping at the end of the track with the win.

I had a great time but now its time for some advice from the experts on how to get the 60s down. My first plan is to set up a 2 step for more consistent launches and then maybe a progressive controller and a second stage of n20 so I can mellow out the launch. I was on mt et streets so a full slick is a must. So the first question is what tire and then what kind of shock setting should I have on my double adjustable shocks. And maybe what controllers should I look at.

And here is a random pick with the sunset.

Re: Great Race but need suspension/tire advise

good job..
without knowing what your running. (tires/gear/rear susp/) same with the front it would be hard to nail it down..

you should. with that sorta power get it down to a 1.35/1.49 60 ft any day of the week with out touching it for diff tracks.. set it and forget it sorta thing...

some will say better 60 ft times..but ya want to have it do the same thing over and over..any time...any track.

lets start with car wt. is it under 3380 or over 3400? (with you in it)

whats the front struts

rear tire size?

gear

trany

most of the guys who do race.. can help.

with that power and wt ya can get into the 10s on as a reg thing.
and 11s with just eng.

car weighs 3475 with me in it , it has a 4.11 gear, 275 60r15 mt et streets, complete spohn catalogue with double adjustable qa1 shocks in rear and coils in front, the tough part is the fact that I am running a liberty geared tko 600. it shocks the **** out of the rear tires

Re: Great Race but need suspension/tire advise

Radials suck. Get a bias ply. So much less work in getting car to work
Esp with a stick!!!!

I went 1.41-1.45 on a 10.6 at 128 nitrous pass probably 500-515 whp on the hit

Just eibach springs, tokico single adjustables

I'm struggling to get my 295/55 mickeys to work now on same car but with alot more power

Re: Great Race but need suspension/tire advise

Bias plies x100. Maybe try a 28x 10.5 stiffwall. The radial will not like a violent hit followed by lots of power, and the slick is much more forgiving.

which brand? any starting setting on shocks? Diggler that size should be real close to the tires I have.

I ran a Hoosier 28x10.5 c07 compound on my car and I never had any kind of issues with traction. Mine was an auto and lighter at 3100ish raceweight. Yours might like the stiff ones a bit better since its heavier and a manual. I've used mickey also, and they worked fine, but they never would hold air which got on my nerves somewhat. (Walk in garage to find car sitting on the rims)
I later swapped to a 275 Goodyear radial and had to get some afcos for the rear to get it to stay planted. With the single adjustable it was blowing the tires off 40ft out with the fronts still in the air. Took some time but finally got those sorted out too.

Re: Great Race but need suspension/tire advice

Oh yea to start I would make the front loose with no limiters. For the rear I would put the lca's level and rear shocks 50/50. First make it hook on the hit, and then work on keeping it hooked the rest of the 60ft or more.
I would maybe put the nitrous on a timer and have it come on after 1 second or something like that.

m/t 3053S 26x10.0 here. been 1.41

what torque arm and what hole are the lca's in? do you have any video of the car? close up, from the rear, pointing at the rear tire?

Re: Great Race but need suspension/tire advice

i'd try the lca's in the "middle" hole. (the one between the bottom and stock location). you want that lca to be level to to the ground, or rising 2-3* from rearend mount the body mount. too much and it "smacks" the tires, and you get into axle hop that shocks cannot control.

hows the track prep... is it sticky.. have you checked it out?

i have run 28x12.5x15 ET streets (15psi) 4.11 gears and always hook hard.(wheels up)
have ya tride track bite. (ya can thin it a bit with napatha to get it to last longer and get sticky sticky..).

edit to add
back in the 80s. we would mod the washer bottel on the cars. to hold track bite. and run the lines down to the rear tires.
worked fantastic if you go to the track without anyone.

Re: Great Race but need suspension/tire advice

track prep was good. tried to peel the shoes right off your feet. I ran the tires at 14 psi. I will move the control arm to the middle and go from there. what pinion angle are you guys setting the rear at with the torque arm?

Re: Great Race but need suspension/tire advice

pinion angle makes little or no difference in a torque arm car. put enough pinion angle in it to keep the u-joints happy. this is because there is little or no axle wrap, since these cars have relatively fixed placed suspension pieces.

Re: Great Race but need suspension/tire advice

I just talked to spohn and they gave me starting points:

front shocks 3 rebound 19 compression
rear shocks 12 rebound 12 compression

start with middle on the lower control arm

1.5-2.0 deg on the torque arm

18psi on the drag radial

Off the subject but do any of you guys have a good steering shaft u want to sell? mine is clapped out. I replace all the steering components in the car with the exception of the shaft and I still have a crap load of play in the steering.
