Info On Everyone's Car

Hey everyone. Just thought I start a thread for everyone to kinda give a little bit of history & info on their cars. Feel free to post anything about your car. Ex. Why third gen? How long you've owned it? Mods and/or future mods? etc. etc. You get the point. So I'll kick this off & make it easy for everyone to learn a little bit about my wife's & my Camaro. The link for our Cardomain page is in the sig. But I'll give you a link right here also. Enjoy & don't forget to rate me on the page. Laterz.

Where to start? Knight Rider. 'Nuff said onwhy I wanted a Trans Am. Although I'm beginning to warm up to the 4th gen models (the wife thinks a Ram Air '99 Trans Am with emerald green paint would be a cool car to own...) I always liked the angular look of the 3rd gen cars. I saw way too many Camaro's so I decided to stick with my childhood desire and finally bought the GTA out of the paer for only 2700. I was already looking for a replacement car - my '89 GP got smacked and it wasn't going to pass safety when it came due. I spotted the ad and decided to do some research into what I was interested in. Combed the web for info about GTA's, writing stuff down, taking notes and finally went to see the car. I fell in love with it, and in my excitement, didn't even look under the hood to see what the engine looked like! It was early September of '03. It needed some maintenance, whihc I've since given it, most notably, the water pump had trashed its bearings and sounded terrible.

I plan on doing a 383 stroker build on the engine, if it's good enough to use again, along with some aluminum heads, headers, cat-back, full suspension upgrade (polygraphite!) along with soem goodies for the transmission. I'm doign research on aftermarket TPI intake plenums and runners, that's all going to be replaced so the 383 can breathe. I'll use the stock plenum as a paperweight at work. I'm also going to throw on some REAL GTA rims and some decent tires. Black paint job from a reputable shop also, but that's after all the go-fast stuff is done.

I'm aiming for a stock look, at least from the exterior of the car, as well as when you sit in it. See sig for what I want it to look like. Once the hood is popped, that's a whole different story.

As for the Firebird, I purchased it for a steal back in April, intended as a daily driver car whle I'm doing all that stuff to the GTA - also to save gas. However, it's operational condition is lacking and it needs a lot of work just to make it run halfway decently. In short, it runs, but not really well. Rust everywhere... I'm going to throw OEM stuff at it until it works right, no speed parts for this car while I own it. I'll sell it once the GTA is done, maybe earlier if I really need a few hundred dollars. I'm seriously contemplating stickign an aftermarket tach into the car, I hate not knowing how fas the engine is turning. Don't worry, it'll be a small unit ticked into a corner, not visile from the outside of the car unless you knw how too look. Scott, I like your gage cluster, I may do a swap out of another car like yours so I have more than TWO gages...

Car: 1984 Chevy Camaro
Engine: Built L98
Transmission: T-56 6 speed
Hmmm...I wanted a thirdgen Camaro ever since I was about 8 or so years old when I saw my neighbors then new Camaro Z28. Later I was able to get a 1991 RS from an insurance auction for only $650. I used to use it for freeway racing and drag racing. Later found SCCA and dropped from illegal stuff. Then found drifting through SCCA and began loading on the suspension parts. Thanks to a bad tire and suspension set up I crashed that car a few times into the gaurd rails at HRP. The frame was damaged so I got rid of it. Luckly I had a 1984 berlinetta sitting on the side that my dads friend gave to me. So I ripped everything out of it and began swapping everything else into it. ALso built a new 350 for it. Currently the car is sitting waiting for me to finish it. But thanks to the fact tha tmy stupid dental insurance didn't cover my wisdom teeth I'm in the whole for money. Well, the third gen story for me starts off in 83. One of my uncles bought a brand new 1983 Z28. I was just about 6 but I instantly fell in love with the car. Later on through the years my dad ended up babysitting the Z28 for my uncle as he went overseas for his job at about 6 monthes at a time. I was in high school & had a Mercury Bobcat as transportation.(the brother of the Ford Pinto if you need a visual lol!) Anyways, the car kept breaking down & while it was down for repair by my father & I.......I got to use the Z28! I pounded the living sh** out of that car & loved every minute of it! But the third gen that I currently have didn't come into play yet. I am also a Ford fan & had a 65 Mustang Coupe & later I got a 68 Mustang Fastback(which by the way I still have & will be finishing next year). Enter my wife Carrie. I met her in 96 & let her drive my uncle's Z28(we still had it!) To make a long story short, I transformed my wife from a Honda girl into a Camaro girl So in 97 or 98 she purchased an 89 RS from JN. She worked at a gas station to pay for the car. So then it began. Small things being done. Exhaust always being the first. Then headers. Better wires. Just the simple stuff. We also were able to get an 88 IROC & an 89 salvage title IROC. the 88 was sold to help fund our wedding & I stripped the 89 for parts. I'll try & dig up some pics of the cars. I took some pics of the RS & 2 IROCs all together at my house. Looked like a mini car show lol! Lastly, I purchased an 83 Z28 from my boss at work(it was his wifes car). I originally got it cause I wanted the 350 that was put in it & the t-5 trans. I later changed my mind & sold it to my younger brother. He was making payments on it to me when the trans decided to give up on him. I have other threads on this topic but to make a long story short, I'm getting ready to either sell the car whole or strip it. We'll see. So the 89 RS will probably be with us for awhile cause it's my wife's pride & joy. Plus I enjoy these cars very much So here's my list of what's done & what needs to be done

Appearance Exterior/Interior

*Brand new paint job color is Vivid Blue Pearl (color is from a Honda Civic Si-Color was still brand new when I got it so the PPG dealer I was at had to phone in the mainland to get the mix formula!)

*SoffSeal Weatherstripping

Car: too many ...
Oh man, this is going to be long hehe. Ok, well I got my first 3rd gen when I was still in Highschool at age 16. I had bought an '86 Porsche 924 from the auctions for $1800 (money from doing free lance web design) and sold it in the paper for $3200. I took that $3200 down to a bunch of dealerships on the windward side (where I lived at the time) and went looking for a car. I didnt know what car I wanted to buy, but I quickly realized that I did not physically fit in most cars comfortably. Then I spotted it. Maroon Red 1989 Chevy Camaro RS w/ 65k miles. I sat in it, and it was perfect. The salesman started it up and BAM I was sold. At the time I did not know anything about 3rd gens but the L03 with Flowmasters sounded so good! So I picked it up for $3000 flat and that was my ride during 11th and 12th grade at Kamehameha. When I left for College I sold the car to my Mom for $1. I came back from College about 6 months later (lost my scholarship, long story) and bought the car back for $1 hehe. I used the car as a daily driver to and from work. Eventually I saved up a grip of cash (living at home with no rent) and bought a 97 S10 outright for $8000. The S10 became my obsession as I got into the Minitruck scene. It was my daily driver for the most part so the Camaro sat around. I ended up paying like $2000 that year in Recon tickets for the truck (slammed, GFX, 17's, bodymods) so I decided to sell it. My plan was to go back to driving the RS. I was looking though the paper to see how much it costs to put in an add to sell the truck and by chance I came across an add for a 92 Camaro RS with the Police Package. I went and checked it out and turns out the car was an actual B4C Camaro!! It was black with the L98/Auto and had 98K miles. The police officer only wanted $4500 too!! Rare car, 350, cold A/C, and 1LE brakes, I couldnt pass it up. So I went from wanting to sell a truck to wanting to buy another car! *slap forhead* I got the loan from the bank that day and picked it up that night. So now I owned a Maroon Red 89 Camaro RS, a Black 92 B4C, and a Green slammed 97 S10 that was for sale. Well the truck never sold because everyone interested didnt have the money so I didnt know what I was going to do. One night about 2 months later I'm posting on the Speed Hawaii forums and I get this PM from a guy asking if my 92 Camaro was really a B4C. I told him it was and he made me an offer unseen of $7000 even though it was not for sale. I couldnt pass it up so I sold it to him for $7000. I was sad to see the B4C go but I had plans for extreme mods and considering that only 592 B4C's were made in 92 I didnt want to hack up a rare Camaro. So now I was back to a 89 Camaro RS and a stupid ticket generating 97 S10 that everyone wanted to buy but nobody had the money for. Then I came across an add in the paper for a 91 Z28 with a blower for $6500. I went to check it out and it was sweet! Had custom paint and a nice set of 17's, not to mention a L98 with a blower and it was a hardtop (I have a thing for hardtops). I used the profit from the B4C sale and worked with the bank to get a loan for the rest and picked the 91 Z28 up. Then the S10 finally sold for $7500 (yeah I took a loss, but these things happen) and I paid the 91 Z28 off. So there I was with a 91 Z28 with a blower and a 89 RS that I was using to drift. Then I got the idea to start up a enthusiasts club for domestic drifting and the idea for a budget drift project began. The plan was to prove that you can build a solid domestic drift car for $5000. So I went looking for a car and came across an 89 IROC-Z hardtop with the L98 for $2500. I picked it up, and thats where I'm at today. I drive the 91 Z28 daily, my girlfriend Tracy drives the 89 IROC daily, and the 89 RS is being built from the ground up. Long story yeah??? hahahahah!!

Good stories.

I don't know where my desire for f-bodies - and specifically firebirds - came from.... Everyone in highschool liked mustangs and imports and they just didn't float my boat. The same thing with slammed trucks, I don't get it. I like my trucks sky high. I like most domestics and a few imports, but GM/Mopars just grabbed my attention. I like pontiacs best, but who doesn't love a good chevy or dodge?

I was actually looking for a clean 2nd gen for a while, had to get a shaker, ya' know? But I couldn't find one in good shape for a good price. Most were rusted up and they all needed paint. Plus it was hard to find a "desirable" engine. Most were slugs, with a couple being decent 400's. Since it was so hard to find a clean 2nd gen, and 1st gen 'birds are IMPOSSIBLE to find here, (regardless of condition) I decided to learn more about 3rd gens... and they quickly grabbed my attention.

After I came back from a vacation in WA a couple of years ago, I saw mine listed in the 'Hotrod' section. I paid asking price after checking it out twice, and I didn't have to ask a whole lot to find out what worked and what didn't. Simple clues told me everything.

The worst clue was the 'free' set of jumper cables that he pointed out to me in the hatch. I thought, "awww ****..." but already paid him and had the keys. He worked for a machine shop, but I lost the keychain he gave me so I don't remember which shop it was. He moved a couple weeks later to OR, but told me to talk to his boss since they built the engine together and knew the car as well as he did.

I kinda wish that I knew as much about cars/f-bodies then as I do now, but then again I doubt that I would have bought this car - which would have probably been a mistake. It's not easy to find a good thirdgen hardtop, but for the price I paid I could have been a lot more picky. He gave me a Summit catalog with the items he bought for it underlined.

Current mods- none from me.
Future mods- hell yes.

Laters,
Scott

Well I soon got my car right after I got my first real job, so I could pay for it, and get back and forth to work.

I saw it sitting at the lot at Ridgeway Motors near Pearl Ridge on Kamameha. So I had my dad stop their on the way back from dinner, so "I could check it out in the dark" I knew from that moment that it was the one.

The next morning, I went to my bank got a loan check, and took it for a test drive. When I got back I was like I'll take it.

Since then, I have put new tires on it twice now, I have 215's up front, I have 255's on the back. I got it painted, basically the same color. Put in this kick *** stereo, Alpine Mp3 deck, Infinity 6.5's in Dj Sexay Kicks. 2 Volfenhag 12 in subs in the back, got a speaker box at that place on Kamehameha near circut city. Put neons up in the car, I have neons in the custom amp box, under the seats, plus I have one up in the celing. It lights up the car pretty good. You can't even see it unless you bend down.

Thats about it, they is a whole bunch of other stuff I have done, I just can't think of it how.

from that point there was never a question, american muscle all the way, there is no substitute

I'm the 2nd owner of my 90 firebird, I talked to the lady that used to own it, she had no kids, was 65 years old and had monthly maintanance since it was new (I even have all her reciepts, even the window sticker from when it was new!), she then traded it in on a new corvette (got to admire her taste in cars). Since buying it in 95 with 40k miles I've kept it in top shape, and with what these cars are worth (bluebook) I know I'll never sell it.

Just had a major tune up at 120k, the mechanic (good guy I've known for years) must have used the word "new" ten times in describing the condition of my car, it's engine and tranny

I love my car :hail:

Thats kewl and all, but you know this board is for Hawaii. So the Majority of the posters are in Hawaii. I'm not saying that you can not post here, but you can not really relate to us over here.

It's OKAY for other people to post here - I'm from Oregon anyway, so I'm just a bit biased anyhow! Of course, if EVERYONE posted on our regional board, it would get cluttered up really quick, but that's okay. It's not like we're running a whole bunch of people. Hey, even people from the EAST coast can post here, no biggie. (Just don't be a tool, don't troll and do NOT flame.)

Yeah the northwest guys can come in here too! I spend part of the summer in WA/OR. I think they only have a 'west coast' board or something generic.

You got a nice car!

Oh, they do have a more specific board.

"Cascade Crew Regional Board

Never knew that, cool....
