Cheap Honda motor (SOLD)

I realize this is off topic so feel free to delete if you must. I'm only posting here because it is a local item and not third gen related, trying to hook somebody up and make a little cheddar for myself.

I have been storing a B16A (vtec) motor for a friend who is not going to use it so I have "inherited" it. Motor is complete except for exhaust manifold and alternator/starter. Condition is unknown, turns over smooth by hand and valvetrain looks perfect. Not a broken timing belt motor.
If you know somebody who can use it I'm selling it for $300.00. It's a gamble but the head alone is worth that, if it checks out good it would be worth a grand. It's in the airport area.

Wow! That is a good price. I'll go ask some of my friends if they are in need of a B16.

Hey Tony,
If you find somebody I can drop it off when I pick-up your Camaro on Saturday! I forgot to tell you my screen name when we met, my head was still swirling from all that happened that day. The only other thing I can tell you about it, is that it still has what appears to be the original t-belt, if it is the mileage can't be too high or it would've broken by now. All the pistons have an equal coating of carbon so I don't think the head gasket is blown I would still recommend pulling the head and inspecting it before installing, but for the price you can't go wrong. Oh and the intake manifold is there with all the injectors, throttle body and wiring harness which has bet cut in the usual place for a JDM import motor.

Cool! I'll let you know before Saturday if I have a buyer for you. Hmmmmm......if I didn't have my daughter I would have just bought it from you lol! Oh yeah, did you want the spare driver side door that I was gonna put on the Camaro. It's white, not sure if the window motor is working properly though. But the window motor in the d/s door on the car now is pretty much brand new. Just let me know then I'll pull it out for you to look at. If you do want it, you can have it for $25.
Also, the T-5 on the Camaro now is a WC & from an 89 Firebird. Can't remember if I told you that already. But, it has the mechanical speedo hookup on it now. I'm gonna give you the original electronic speedo sensor hookup also, that way you can use it on your car if you decide to in the future. I'm pretty sure your Camaro has the electronic style speedo.
Laterz!

Anthony

Mileage and condition unknown. The above description is all I know. If I knew it was good I would want a lot more. Good used b16's go around $1000 plus shipping from the importers.
These heads alone go for over $300, if I can't sell it locally I'll probably pull the head and keep it. Like I said it turns over smooth by hand and the valvetrain has minimal wear but I would pop the head off and inspect it before putting it in a car.
I don't want to be shady about anything that's why I'm telling you I don't know up front, I think $300 is a fair price considering the internals aren't mangled. Even if it needs freshing up, parts and valve jobs are cheap.

Truth be told I'm a little car kind of guy, I guess it came from growing up around all the little european sports cars my grandpa had when I was a kid. I hate **** but I love to race, I like auto-x and super tight back roads like you can't find here, but I can where I'm going. I know I'll end up back in small import eventually so I'm selling it for what it's worth to me. Considering I'll most likely end up in a Honda again and wish I kept it. I love American iron for what it is, but if someone offered me a trade for a little car of similar value I'd do it in a heart beat. Then I'd build this B16 and swap it in.

I didn't see too many Honda's on the autocross track the one time I went, except for S2k's. Not that I doubt a small car can really handle, lok at a Miata! I had always considered dong a CRX, fun-looking car, if a bit on the small size. Not much power needed to push that around... I see nice ones every now and again, but a lot of them are clapped out with the usual Uncle Ben's gear. C'mon, who really needs a roof spoiler...?

It's not that Honda's have any distinct advantage, they are just cheap, reliable and respond well to mods. Early CRX's win regularly at the national level, and the 92-95 civic has pretty much turned STS into a spec class, nothing else can really compete. Why Honda put 4-wheel independant double wishbone suspension on a grocery getter I'll never understand, but I like it. Slap a 8k rpm motor in with good suspension and it's like driving a go-cart on the street. I know in the larger picture a 3rd offers higher performance, but those little cars are stolen golf cart fun and that's what it all about. My dream ride is an 72 Alfa Romeo GTV, but that does not agree with my bank statment.
Like I said though, I think the tranny swap will move the Camaro in the right direction.

Car: too many ...
I'll ask my friend too. He's currently running a B16 and getting ready to put a Jackson Supercharger on that thing. I'm sure he'll be interested in having a backup motor.

Right on, it would be perfect for that. He could build it for more boost with out having to down his daily driver.

I might know a guy also, if no one else takes it.

By the way Corey, we aren't even supposed to make any classified posts, especially not non-third gen posts.

I won't lock this, just leavin' it up as a warning.

But... there's nothing I can say about you putting 'for sale' info in your signature. (Which could also include a link for more info.)

Scott

P.S. I didn't mean to single you out, but I had to say something about it because of the subject.

Thanks Scott,
I realize I was breaking some rules when I posted it, I was hoping that it would be alright as long as I kept it on the local board. If not I won't have any hard feelings about it being locked or deleted. While this is not a normal situation for me, and this thread has already started I will keep your advice in mind for the future

edit: Just told my friend about the motor, so you should be getting a call from him in a few minutes. You have no idea how perfect of timing this is for him, i'm glad i saw this. thnx corey

hey corey, thnx again for that sweet deal on the motor! Now i'm in the same position you were in, I'm holding the motor at my house for my friend. He stopped by later last night to check it out n' couldn't stop smiling haha. That guy changes his mind really fast tho... the original plan was for boost like i was tellin u earlier, but now he has aspirations for 250 wheel HP the NA way. Personally, i think he's nuts, but i suppose anything is possible with enuf money (which neither of us have). ah well, we'll see how everything goes, first order of business is rejuvinating the bottom end n' finding the missing parts.

Scott -- I reviewed the TGO rules and guidelines and could not find anything restricting members from posting items for sale in the regional boards.

In fact, it seems to be "common practice" throughout TGO that members post items for sale in regional boards when the intent is to offer those things for sale to other members living close-by.

As the moderator of the Pacific Forum, if you are saying members "aren't ... supposed to make any classified posts" in the forum, please clarify where the rule came from -- and if it isn't banned by TGO policy, then it should be OK to do so, right?

Thanks,
Ed

Actually Ed, I was lookin' into the same thing the other day when I made the post.

I coulda' swore there was some rule against it, but since I haven't found anything so far, I haven't said anything about f-body posts.

I thought the rule was no 'for sale' posts except of the classified boards, but I don't see anything that states that, so I guess it's fine.

Regardless, I personally think most of the 'for sale' posts on this board are fine and helpful- except all the seperate threads for "other people's" cars for sale, like from the paper. That is, unless someone is looking for it or it's for a friend, etc. (But that's just something that bothers me personally, not something that is against any rules.)

Edit: Also, in the previous post I meant to say "I don't think we're even supposed to make any classified posts..." Guess I forgot to edit it.

Like I said, I don't have any problems with it either way.

Great, I'm sure other members here have a bunch of extra 3rdGen stuff they'd like to sell and others would like to buy.
