plug?

There is a Plug right above the rear end of my camaro that has nothing going into it, i believe it has somthing to do with gas gauge the wires on the other side of plug were cut off but are black green and purple. Anybody know wat this plug gos to? and could this be why my gas gauge dosnt work?

The plug, if it were coming from the gas tank, was for the gauge and fuel pump. Purple, being the sending wire for the fuel gauge. Green, hot for the pump. Black, ground for the pump/sending unit.
The other end is not a dangling plug end but, in the center of the wall behind the backrest of the rear seats. Regardless of the termination end being there or not, the fuel gauge sender & pump wires ran under the drivers side door sill trim to the center of the rear seats

Short answer, yes, it's why your gauge doesn't work.
