what if you dont put the pushrods back in the same place?

what if you dont put the pushrods back in the same place?
i searched for 11 pages and didnt find an answer. so what happens if the dont go in the same place with new lifters?

pushrods are cheap, why not just replace them?

I never do. SBC pushrods are all the same length and you re-adjust them anyway. If they're worn enough to cause a problem in the lifters then you should have changed them. My BBC pushrods are 2 different lengths. Intake and exhaust length are different because of the way the valves are arranged. I pull all the pushrods and put them in a pile. Only the lifters if they're flat tappet need to be kept in order. Roller lifters don't wear in like a flat tappet so they can be mixed around.
All my spark plugs are indexed so they go back in the same holes also.

ok thanks. i was reading through some old posts that said you have to put them in the same places and i think i saw it in one of the 3 manuals i have. also when my cousin was helping me remove my heads ofcourse he pulled one off and they went everywhere...
