Test run with TTZ28......

Well, tonight was do or die.. Overall, everything went great...

Fuel pressure was excellent, I boost referenced from the carb hat and it works flawlessly... At 10psi of boost, FP was at 18psi...

I did find that I really really need a BOV in a bad way.. That's 1st on the to-do list..

Running rich jetting is good so far, driveability is fine thus far, but hard to say in the long run...

My brother and I took a test trip around the block first and we got out and opened the hood to check things out.... We were awfully surprised to see that the headers were glowing red... Like red as a tail light red... Pretty nuts... Didn't get that hot again after that tho...

I just wanted to see if it could make the trip back to the garage where I'm storing it for the winter, everything looked good..

So, my bro jumps in his car and follows me to the garage...

All I can say is wow.. It hits 10psi in a blink of an eye... I've been giggling like a little school girl all night... Just nuts...

Sorry for rambling...

In addition to the rich condition, too far of retarded timing can give you the same result.

Thanks guys!

Kandied91z - Would you believe I've spent LESS than 1500 bucks Canadian on the entire TT setup?

B4Ctom1 - I assume you're talking about the glowing headers? I have the timing set to about 2 degrees..

I can't wait to add the water/alc injection and advance my timing...

Cheers!

I assume thats your base advance?

Whats your total advance? You know, vacuum advance disconnected and and mechanical fully in.

Right on. Sounds killer. Those turbos do spool up fast. Glad to hear someone else has their turbo setup and running. Good job. Going to the track. Heading out now. Hope all goes well and it doesn't start raining.

Track was rained out. Well at least I know the car can make it that far. Won't matter anyway. I'm getting a trailor tomorrow. Guess I'll try again next Sunday. I still got gas squirting out of the carb somehwere to and it knocks under boost. Guess I'll back off the timing some. I'm at 6 deg. BTDC initial. I'll go to 3 BTDC and see what happens.

I'm at 9 psi. At least thats what my wastegates are set at. Haven't got it to 9 psi yet. But I'm working on it. BOTLFED, whats your initial timing set at? Mine is 6 BTDC. Thanks.

Brad, I set my initial timing at 2 degrees... I can't hear any spark knock, but then again, the gear drive, turbos and exhaust make it hard to hear anything... lol...

Cheers!

Yup, them geardrives are loud. Do you like yours? It makes it hard to diagnose funny noises. I took mine out. I'm gonna go to 2 deg and see what happens. If it's working for you, should/might work for me. Thanks.

I love the gear drive.. It's probably because I only drive it on the weekend tho.. I know quite a few people who had them in their daily driver and have taken them out because it drove them nuts..

It will probably be alright at 2 degrees, but what works for me may not work for you... There are too many factors such as compression, cam profile and AF mixture..

Good luck!

I think you guys can install some kind of stop on the mechanical advance to limit timing then you could run 6* or even higher initial advance to keep your low end responce. Then depending what rpm boost comes in you can change your spring rate to determine how soon or late your mechanical advance comes in but have the stop installed to limit total timing to 30* or whatever works best for ya. Maybe you'll get some better driveability and it might help keep your hedders for glowing

That's not a bad idea you know... I don't think I need to worry about throttle response tho.. If I touch the gas, I hit my stall speed on my convert and instantly have 10psi lol... It's retarded... Just hope I can hook this summer....

Cheers,

"retarted" Hell no it's awsome! I want to turbo something so bad it physcally hurts! I have a 79 vette and everytime I look in the engine bay it bums me out . There is like no room, I would have to cut out fender wells and really start hacking up the engine compartment which I dont want to do. I have kicked around the idea of mounting the turbos low but cant find any info on using a pump to return oil back up to the engine. I thought at one point someone had suggested using something like a holley blue fuel pump but not sure how that would work. Being that it is ment for fuel and would instead be seeing very hot oil and not a constant supply of it either, just a frothy brew. (uummm beer oops got side tracked) Seems like it would blow up before too long. Maybe if you could limit voltage to is so it wouldn't spin up to much. I would hate for my oil return pumps to be the most expensive part of my DIY turbo project. I have read and researched soooo much I feel like I'm ready to do this thing. I am even taking a welding class Gas/Ark/MIG/TIG so I should be able to custom fab everything too. Or when my S-10 warrantee runs out maybe turbo that thing! I would also like to mount that low near where the Y pipe meets for simplicity. Then I could keep much of my stock exhaust setup but I would still have the return problem. Well, I have rambled on for far too long

Yes I have and he has done some engine bay modifications I think to make more room. It is packed in there tight I would like to keep the powersteering already got rid of AC compressor and I dont know what I would do with the alternator, mount it low I guess. I guess I just need to be more creative.
