I have an '89 GTA with a 305 TPI and a 5 speed. It has about 98,000 miles on it and runs well. I did a few small bolt ons (AFPR, Air Foil, K&N, Port Plenum, Cat-back). The rest of my effort has been on suspension. But anyways. I have had a NOS 5151 System sitting around for about 6 months now that I havn't ever installed or run it. I was thinking about hooking it up pretty soon, but I was worried about safely using it because I need my engine to at least last me until this summer. (I need to go back and forth to school).

Has anyone had any problems with a used nitrous system? Failing solenoids? That's the only real mechanical part I can think of, is there any way to check them? If I get jets for something small like a 50 shot, will I have to worry about the solenoids?

Since I just bought a pillar dual guage pod, and only have one guage I guess I'll get a nitrous guage so that will cover the pressure issue. I don't have the resources to install new plugs.. so maybe I'll get a shop to do it.. and I don't currently have the money for an MSD or whatever, but I heard on our cars, you don't really need one. I was also going to put new wires on if I got new plugs, and I have a cap and rotor with less that 5k on them.

I'm not into street racing or any of that garbage. I just wanted to try using the kit t at the track since I have it. It kinda seems a waste not to use it.

I would say that if you are worried about anything failing, replace the fuel solenoid, or buy a rebuild kit for it. A new solenoid will cost you $60. If you need any help with the install, send me an email. I am next door to you in Scripps Ranch.

I think i'm going to install it this week some time. If I have any problems I'll email you. I think the only thing that might be a problem is hooking up the throttle switch and putting the braided line under the car (they go under, not inside as I remember). But I don't think i'm going to run it until I rebuild or replace the fuel solenoid.

I live in University City and go to school at UCSD so I'm right next to scripps every weekday.

i am running the 5151 kit,works great. My 91 has 127k miles on the 305.We were running a 120 shot,but stepped up to a 160 late last year,the clutch didnt agree,so never made a good run with the BIG shot.
you can rebuild the solenoids for like 20 or so a piece.I have my line running through the inside of the car,the bottle is mounted on the tunnel between the rear seats.

It's ok to run the line in the car? That should make hooking it up a lot easier since I am about 500 miles from my tools(jack/jackstand/air-tools).

Has anyone hooked up the autometer Nitrous gauge up? I assume you put a "T" in the nitrous line somewhere and run that to the guage to get it to work.. i think the autometer guage comes with everything but the braided line, i guess i'll go order one of those and the 2 guage a-pillar pod from Kragen soon.

I am going to just go with a 50 shot. I don't feel like replacing anything else in my car.. in the 18 months i've owned it i've replaced the interior, painted it, replaced the radiator/alternator/intake man. gasket/all front&rear brake parts/exhaust/shocks and struts/2 tires/power antenna/spoiler/battery ... and thats just off the top of my head.

It's ok to run the line in the car, but just not recommended in case you have a leak. i ran mine underneath the car following the fuel lines. The only prob is that the 5151 kit comes with a 14ft line, and you need a comfortable 15ft for this. If you are gonna run it underneath the carpet on the passenger side, 14ft will be perfect. Where is your hometown at?

Ok.. maybe I'll run it in the car for now, and when I go home I will try to run it with the fuel lines. How did you attatch it to the fuel lines.. zip ties?

My hometown is in the Bay Area. A place called Danville. It's near pleasanton, san ramon, and walnut creek.

Yes, I did use zip ties. Good luck on the install.
