Wiring window switch to stock ignition?

I checked the old messages and archives and couldn't find any info about this (and I swore I just saw it)..

But I just bought a mallory window switch to use with my nitrous... but I don't have an aftermarket ignition (yet), so where do I connect the green wire to if I don't have an aftermarket ignition?

Also the instructions seem kind of vauge as to where the orange wires go. The instructions say that one goes to ground, and I assumed that the other one would be exactly like any other switch and I could wire it in series with the other two switches (micro and master switch)? In the manual the orange doesn't do that it has one going to ground and one going to some unidentified part (I am assuming the relay?)

From what I read on _how_ it works ... I should ignore the diagram and just wire one orange to a 12V IGN source and one to the 12V source of one of my switches.. that would make sense and be easy because I could mount it in the center console w/ minimal wiring for easy adjustments.

Thanks.

I have the same switch in my car on the nitrous system. Just tape up the purple wires you won't use them. The orange wires are the switch wires for the window. I wired one to my WOT switch and the other to my relay for the solenoids. The other three wires are red for +12V ignition source, black for ground and the green for the tach signal which is usaully a white wire on GM cars.

I just finished wiring it up. I put it in the center console. It works fine. It buzzes when It is activated though.. kinda weird. No big deal because It is kind of like a nitrous indicator buzzer .

I wired the green wire from the box to one of the white wires comind off the coil.. there are two, and I got it the second time . I just checked my chilton's diagram.

I wired one orange to a 12V coming from the ign outlet on the fusebox which goes to my master switch and then to the orange and then put the other orange to the wot switch.

Does anyone elses window switch buzz though? MSD or mallory?

Well.. I thought I had it working, but it isn't. I know that the wire I attatched the green to is the tach, cause when I unplugged it, the tach didn't work. But the stupid thing buzzes and completes the circuit when it is idling, when I increase the rpm, it'll stop buzzing. Do I need an MSD or something to run this switch?

I am using the stock ignition right now and I have no problems. I ran 12v to my master then from my master to the orange on the window switch. Then, I took the other orange to the WOT switch which in turn goes to the relay turn on wire. It sounds like you are wired the same as mine. I would recheck my ground connection and make sure it is good.

Ok.. I re-grounded it to a really good ground. But it still buzzes. I checked the voltage out (at one of the orange wires) and this is what I found:

1. When it is buzzing it sends ~5V intermittently.

2. It works fine in the rpm range it is supposed to (sends out ~14V).

It usally buzzes at idle or around idle.. I think it's either a faulty switch or my tach output wire sends funny signals @ idle?

Does anyone know what the tach output wire is supposed to send (voltage wise).. maybe I can check it to see if it is ok readings and narrow it down to the switch possibly?

Thanks.

The only other thing I can think of is check and make sure the switch is setup for a V8. I remember that the guy that had my switch before me had an LS1 and had to have the switch set to 4 cyl to make it work so I had to switch it to 8 cyl on my car.

I set it to a V8 (both switches off).. I am going to try switching wires one more time.. on my coil there are two white wires and two pink. Is yours like that.. if so which white wire did you hook it up too. If this doesn't work i'll probably just send it back to jegs and maybe get an MSD switch.

I just noticed that my ignition coil makes kind of a ringing noise. I think that the coil may be sending interference with those ringing noises? Is that the sound of a coil going bad when it rings like that? The last thing I need is to replace another part on this car!

I saw someone selling a mallory hi-fire 6 for really cheap, maybe I'll pick it up and try that before I send the switch back.

Yeah it is possible you are getting some type of interference on the tach wire. I wouldn't switch to the MSD mainly becuase then you will have to mess with a bunch of "pills" lying around. I would go ahead with the ignition box purchase, it wouldn't hurt and you will want one anyway. I've never heard of a ringing sound coming from the distributor, maybe someone else on the board has seen this problem. You also might call Jeg's support and ask them, they might have seen this before.

Thanks for the help. I just talked to the guy with the hyfire and i'll be picking it up soon. Hopefully it will work cause I have had this nitrous for too long now without running it.

It kills you not to push the button when you first get it doesn't it? I was always wanting to use it. I found a place that sold refills for a buck and pound and I was lovin it. Now, I have to pay 2.50 a pound so I don't use it as much. Good luck and have some money set back for those other drivetrain parts that will need to be replaced after a few runs.
