Weiand 142 pics...paging Fast355

I didn't want to hijack another members thread so here's some pics. I just got this done last week. I'm still working on the Bondo...

It's got a 780 cfm QJet on top. 74 main jets with 41k main rods and DA secondary rods on a K hanger. The LT4 cam has 115° LSA so it should prove to be a good blower cam.

The boost is a funny thing with the QJet. If I hold the throttle just before the secondaries open the engine will start pulling a vacuum again at 3500 rpm. If I tip in on the secondaries at that point the boost will jump to 3 psi and climb from there (to ~5 psi). The first time I did this I had to look into the cowl and make sure it didn't suck my air cleaner in. It sounded like a Harrier just took off!

I served up a little 'Merican iron to some guy in a BMW on the hiway. I'm quite sure he cried himself to sleep that night...

I love it! Ordinary car + Weiand 142 or B&M 144 = Sleeper

I blew the doors off of a guy in a NBS Tahoe the other day, laughing the whole way. He looked pissed when we stopped at the next light.

Once I have all the mud work done we're going to paint the hood PPG flat black. You know, make it look "meh".

Yes the sound is awesome. I'm going to use so much gas for the sole purpose of making the blower scream.

I gotta get some 10" wide steely rims that my grandma hubcaps fit into. These poor 215 pizza cutter tires get torched at the top of 2nd.

You've probably already seen what my 295s do.

I love it. I can hear a hint of blower whine in there. Good stuff...

Hey nice setup man. I'm just drooling over all the future options I have at this point. I think this is the way to go right? Gobs of streetable power?

My big question is how did you get the Qjet throttle linkage to work?

Oh yea, how do you attach photos to a post? I couldn't figure it out. I just got my Z back on the road after 8 long yrs and wanted to show some pics.

On my 142 setup (in a Malibu- similar to your full size Imp/Caprice) I built my own throttle bracket- well, heavily modified a store bought unit. Used one that bolts to the 2 rear intake bolts and then extends WAY up into the air to get in line with the throttle cable stud. You can see a picture of it in the "post pictures of your power adder" thread at the top of this forum (I think I'm on page 4 or 5).

I've also used modified Holley-style brackets that bolt to the carb studs instead of down on the intake. The cheap Spectre bracket you can buy in the "cheap chrome parts" aisle.

For the kickdown cable to my TH-350 trans I bought a B&M adjustable one to give me the extra length I needed to reach up there.

I guess I am lucky, I did not need any throttle cable modification. I have a front pull TBI where the bracket and throttle cable attach to the actual TBI. Running a 4L60E, I do not have to worry about a TV cable. I used a remote mounted cruise control servo, and fabed up a simple bracket using a pre-made unit from Spectre. Even the cruise control can, will, and has hit WOT.

hey i just got one of these blowers except mine is a long nose cause i have a serpentine belt i wondering what your combo consisted of like what heads and camshaft also i'v herd different things about these blowers with about 9:1 compression 400 horsepower 350, you throw one of these things on (142) will that get me to 500 hp or would the blower not keep up? i'v herd that the 174 would keep up but i already have the 142?!? whata you think?

also will this blower work with vortec style heads

My experience with the 142 is that 400HP is easy, 500HP is the lid. The blower just can't move enough air to get much beyond that point. I'm putting down 390 to the rear wheels with good heads and a bit of a cam, so that's in the mid-upper 400s, depending on whose conversion factor you believe. I'm one pulley away from being maxed out. 9:1 compression is too much unless you're going to keep the boost real low, IMHO.

Here's a link to a really good Holley tech article about roots blowers:

thanks damon so if you have lets say 9:1 and run 4 lbs of boost it should be in the upper 400s (should) what do you think stick with this blower and max it out for all its got or go with the 174 or 177 whatever it is?
