Which Blower is the Loudest?
Which blower has the loudest whine? Im just doing my homework here for my next project. (now that i have a job that can actually support my hp addiction!)
I was leaning towards the Procharger D1SC. Im shooting for around 600hp at the wheels on a well built 383 with about 12-15lbs of boost. I still have some research to do but i think this is feasable. One of my primary goals in this project is I want it to sound NASTY!!!! The cam will help with that but i want that blower to be screaming bloody murder!
What does the D1SC sound like at idle? At midrange? At max RPM? Does anybody have a video of one?

procharger can set them up to be as noisy as you want. From quiet to screaming like the limited and outlaw 10.5 tire guys. Thats what they told me when i asked them anyway.

I dunno from what I've heard the vortec V1 series are supposed to be about the loudest streetable blowers you can get as far as a centrifugal is concerned

irocdx3- Your setup looks pretty sweet but i can barely hear that blower, does it whine louder when you step on the gas?
i might call procharger and see what it costs to have one made. i like how with the procharger you dont have to tap into the oil pan. id rather get one of them than a vortec. plus with procharger you get a 3 year warranty.

If you are so worried about the noise just bolt on a procharger along with running a pete jackson gear drive instead of a timing chain. Nobody will know the difference they will just think you have a loud blower!

Realy? Mmmmmmm learn something new everyday. Do you have any proof...not that I am doubting you I just like to learn new stuff and educate myself. I plan on building a tpi motor in the future and I was actually thinking about running a gear drive??? But now I find myself second guessing that decision for some odd reason...lol.

Re: Which Blower is the Loudest?
no my blower is quite when your under gas. Question for you though, is this a daily driver because if it is it gets really obnoxious listening to the wind all day.
the pete jackson quite gear driver can be used with the nock sensor, i believe there are a few members running those.

Re: Which Blower is the Loudest?
I've heard and read that you have to edit down the sensitivity at a minimum because its soo loud that it resonates through the block and trips out the knock sensor
besides I really dont see the advantage to running them anyway besides the gnarley noise

Re: Which Blower is the Loudest?
4play- Thats a good idea and i had considered that but like others have said, it will interfere with the knock sensor. Ill stick with a double roller...
irocdx3- its my daily driver right now (my DD was my 1957 MGA roadster but i got hit by a drunk driver two weeks ago and its down for a complete restoration now)
Its not going to be seeing daily duty very often after i get it built though. The goal of this build is to make it insanely stupidly fast while still retaining the creature comforts. (A/C, stereo, etc...) A lot of work is going to be just restoration. (getting rid of all those damn sqeaks and rattles!)
88 350 TPI- im at work now and cant watch that but ill see it as soon as i get home tonight. how much does the F1 cost?

the F1 or F1r as far as streetable blowers go.
an f1r base kit non intercooled is about $3900

Which Blower is the Loudest?
I have been running the Vortech S/C and had to send it back to them to have it upgraded as I am running 18 lbs of boost now. It is pretty noticeable at idle and really noticeable when you punch nail it. I have also considered running a gear drive. I was advised by my engine builder on running a gear drive.
1. Takes away HP because of the drag of the gears. I was advised to run a Belt instead or just a good double roller. I was concerned with it jumping timing. Now with a belt and new timing cover, the timing can be adjusted on the front of the engine and then I can fine tune through the ECM using Tuner Pro RT.
2. The noise will trip the knock sensor. Presents another problem. You can make your sensor less responsive.. But when you have engine troubles like knock or ping, your knock sensor might not pick it up because you desensitized it.

Re: Which Blower is the Loudest?
the only difference between a carb/efi application is the cold side piping, just run an adaptor from the pipe to the TB instead of a carb hat. and maybe the belt setup might be different if you are running serpentine belts, just call and ask.

Re: Which Blower is the Loudest?
backinblack- Does it whistle or does it whine?
Im trying to figure out if it only makes noise when you step on the gas (gear whine) or if its the sound of the air moving (whistle like a turbo)
Looks like the F1r is something to think about....

the F1's Whistle like a turbo, whine usually comes from a twin screw, not really from centrifigul s/c's

Re: Which Blower is the Loudest?
heres a video of the car on the dyno......you can sorta get an idea of what it sounds like
right at the end of the video you can hear some decent audio of the blower while the car is idling

Re: Which Blower is the Loudest?
Instinctively the gear drive sounds like the best idea. A friend of mine has a twin turbo 351 mustang and once he installed the timing gears you can't here the turbo's it sounds liek a blower car. Either way his car is loud enough that people don't want to race lol.
Just call the manufacture and specify, but on a side not what is there to gain from the noise? Haven't you ever heard the idea of a sleeper? if you want to hear a blower really scream you should hear my buick regal gs with the factory eaton. Now that things screams.

Re: Which Blower is the Loudest?
screw superchargers make the best noise their design alone promotes them to make a loud whine that is unmistakable by anyone who knows what a supercharger is and i hate to mention ford but the lightning f150 harley davidson and 03 04 cobras plus i believe that the new gt500 is supercharged as well at least I heard it in I Am Legend if you want noise go for a screw i work in the hvac industry and there are 5 different kinds of compressors out there that we use and you would be silly to put a screw compressor in a residential building because people complain about the noise personally i say screw plus then you can get the license plate "screwed" lol good luck! look fr video clips on streetfire.net and google video (google video has all of youtube's videos + more) by the way guys i believe that it is unnecessary to white "twin" screw because correct me if i am wrong but a single screw does not exist and please do correct me if i am wrong but make sure that you are right because i hate misinformation

those are not nearly as loud as a big centrifugal blower with straight cut gears either

Re: Which Blower is the Loudest?
well roots and screw are quite similar in design except the roots blower works more like Wankel compressor they are sort of a hybrid

Re: Which Blower is the Loudest?
a screw type supercharger compresses air internally between the rotor vanes (machined to make the void between them smaller from one end to the other) and pulls air from one end of the vanes, to the discharge at the other end.....allowing for higher pressure differential.
the biggest similarity between them is how they look.
