Procharger - bypass to filter or atmosphere?

I have a Procharger on my car and the bypass valve is located before the intercooler and runs back to my air filter boot. What are your opinions on just venting the bypass to atmosphere instead of back to the filter? It would help clean up my engine bay, as the return hose is a pain in the *** to deal with.

I don't have a MAF on my car, I have an Accel Gen7 system.

Re: Procharger - bypass to filter or atmosphere?

I vented my back to the atmosphere, why would anyone want to put hot air back into the system?

Re: Procharger - bypass to filter or atmosphere?

I just switched it to atmosphere and the driveability has improved. I think my bypass valve wasn't able to fully handle the flow and my throttle blades were shuttering. Also, my fiberglass hood doesn't shake when I let off the gas anymore!

Re: Procharger - bypass to filter or atmosphere?

Just remember to put a small filter on the atmosphere side of the valve as this will turn into an air inlet when off boost.

Exactly, a lot of people forget that, same on my buddies 1LE he bought off here, vented to atmosphere with the valve under the radiator support./ What a great way to get crap into the system

Re: Procharger - bypass to filter or atmosphere?

I am putting a filter on, but a supercharger is never "off boost" unless you remove the belt.

Re: Procharger - bypass to filter or atmosphere?

I referenced my bypass to the engine manifold, not the supercharger. I certainly see no boost unless accelerating.

Re: Procharger - bypass to filter or atmosphere?

I meant a supercharger is always providing positive airflow. This valve is never an air inlet because the supercharger is always pushing air, even at idle. However I do agree that one should put an air filter on the bypass valve to keep it free of dirt and water.

You are correct. Air is always flowing OUT of the valve unless it is closed. The only reason ProCharger puts an air filter on some of their valves is to muffle the air coming out of the valve.

I went the other way and installed the valve hose back into the filter, was getting sick of the excessive noise it produced, like it a hell of a lot better now.

Re: Procharger - bypass to filter or atmosphere?

I have mine vented to atmosphere as well. Is there a problem not running a filter on the end of the hose? It only blows air out of it and doesn't suck any in. I have mine elevated from the ground and facing towards the radiator.

I've been running my procharger for 3 yrs and don't have a filter on the end of the by-pass valve. Air is always coming out or the valve is closed under boost. I just have my discharge go to the atmosphere rather than tie it back into the system and pump more hot air into it.

I actually went back to venting to atmosphere but this time with a filter on the end of it. The filter on the end helps a lot with the noise so I'm leaving it like that since my return hose was starting to deteriorate.

Anyone ever add a filter over a big red bypass valve that vents to atmosphere?
