What is the exact error? Or what happens?

When you said the following, that makes me think you are getting a different error message in regard to your first question above for you to say you also get the following error sometimes.

No there is no other error message. Most of the time when I send the reply the page will take a very long time thinking then finally just not load. Says lost connection to server, you know the standard IE error message that doesn't really apply to anything. On a few occasions I actually get a relevant error message that I posted. That particular thread I just don't seem to be able to reply to. I can reply to all the other threads just fine with no hesitation or wait.

This happens to me once in a while and I've had other people tell me the same. I tried to respond to your post, and I got:

I tried exactly what you said and still no replies. The load bar takes a long time to move then finally the window shows:

The web site you have requested may be experiencing technical difficulties due to a busy or broken server.

Please try again by clicking the Reload icon on your navigation bar or, if that doesn't work, you may want to return to the site at a later time.

I can reply fine in all the other threads including ones I started. It just seems this particular thread I can not reply in. Other people have replied but it keeps timing out on me. Any clue on this?

Well that post hasn't been replied to since July, it is also a bigger thread. Does the error occur when you click on the Post To Topic button, or does it occur once you actually try to post your response?

It's very possible with a thread that size (though it's not extremely large) that there is a member or two in that thread that have invalid email address that also have email notification turned on. That can, and is known to, cause timeout errors on the server side.

But it's hard to tell on this side of things.

I'm having the same problem replying to older posts in the appearance and detailing forum on topics that have over 3 pictures already in them from before the new rule was passed.

If the old post with more than 3 pics wont reply, is it because of the new rule that was set in place? I'm not trying to post a pic in that post, just a text reply.

Any thoughts?

Unless the admins did quite some hacking with some codes in vB, MetalliCamaroRS is correct. Stock form, it's not going to have a rule like that to prevent replying.

I will say that attachments can cause server load spikes, which may result in issues like that. Let alone the other processes that are running on the server, and other activity on vB, that can cause spikes in the server load and cause issues.

Ok I narrowed it down. Seems like I can't reply to posts I make in the street racing board. Something glitches on that board for some reason for me. I can reply to all my posts on other boards just not the street racing one

The problem is not in one forum.

And looking into it more, it appears to be a server issue, with the email side. i am pretty certain vB queues the email and tries to send the email notification out before it posts the data to mysql. If the email process stalls or fails, the information may not get posted to mysql, and therefore, not in the thread.

Why the sever isn't handling the email too well, could be a few different reasons.

The problem for me though on happens in the Street Racing board. All the other boards it has no problems whatsoever when I respond to posts I make in them. Also I don't have TGO setup so it gives me e-mail notification for anything. Does the boards run off an email setup or something? This is very confusing since I have no clue on why this would be happening

You may not have email notification turned on, but others in your thread may have. And those may contain invalid email accounts which could make the email process die. Remember, anyone who replies in a thread (creator or not) will get email notification if they have it enabled. So it's more than just the creator.

Though i am not certain, this thread https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=193011 that i replied to quite a while ago, i believe is also unreplyable, though i haven't tried myself. However, i've gotten atleast a dozen email notifications of replies, but there is nothing new there. i am guessing the email process dies, and so the person's reply doesn't make it to mysql, which then means it doesn't get posted.

As i said, though i am not 100% certain, i believe when a user replies to a post, the process first is to queue the email notifications for people in that thread and then process them, BEFORE the actual reply is sent to mysql, for storage. If the email server dies or fails for some reason (such as several invalid email addresses) it can prevent the data from getting to mysql and therefore the reply will be lost.

i am sure if the admins temporary turn off the email notification feature globally, that this issue will disappear. However, that isn't the solution.
