Looking closer I think you are right. I thought it was just a little piece of the rubber still left on some wire. Its pretty charred it seems. They had something wrapped around it but it was so old...

Sorry to revive an old thread like this...but I am just curious, isnt it dangerous to take out the fusible link like that and just connect the wires? should there not be an inline fuse at least...

Thanks a lot guys that is what I was hoping to hear. So for my 83, I can just put in an 82-85 one and it will be plug and play as long as they are both v8's?(mine is a v8)

It does click , but my problem is that with it unplugged it runs perfectly fine, but as soon as I plug it in it dies, or if i try and start it it will start and die immediately. I need it plugged in...

yeah, i took the carb off, and ran carb cleaner through the carb. i didn't see any powder in the intake at all it looked nice and clean. dusted out the engine compartment the best i could. it starts...
