you can use ls6 beehives(less then 100 bucks but prone to breaking) with comp cams 787 retainers and locks, or comp cams 26915 or 26918(about 200 bucks) beehives and should be fine with your total...

Ultrasonic cleaning is the best method but soaking in a strong cleaner will do wonders, just dint get it in the terminals and it shouldn't do any harm. Not replacing O-rings/seals on the other hand...

did you check the crank thrust bearing, if thats ok and you truly checked all other bearings i think you need to remove the heads and pistons and inspect for broken/cracked ring lands or side skirts....
